Got hacked off enough with Vodafone to decide to move to other networks.

My phone- no problem as it's an unlocked W8.1( NOW w10).

Swimbo has a Vodafone Smart First seven. Unlocked OK, but the default Vodafone SMS App is locked to a Vodafone SIM. On other networks it defaults to the Android Hangout App. hello SMS seems to be the app of choice, BUT Google store doesn't list it. Any suggestions for a  simple to use SMS Text app to be used by a technophobe lady ( or rather Mrs). Something simple, as I'm already getting major grief over the network change as her phone isn't working as she was used to .

I'd just buy another phone.

That Vodafone is only £20.

 

One of the cheap Chinese smartphones would do the trick or even a Nokia 3310.

Aspman- it's easier to find an app than get Swimbo used to a new phone. At moment, I've got one SMS app installed ,and I think she's happy with it. She's very anti change, but I'm hoping that this app will work with her. Phone was dirt cheap, possibly as little as £15 , but it was an attempt to drag her screaming into the world of smart phones.

There’s a few sms apps out there. Handcent SMS and Textra. Both quite easy to use and configurable for looks/sounds

 

Textra is free... handcent used to be but not used for a while so may be add supported now

Just noticed that Google have introduced Chat for Android phones. Might wait for that, as it's got good write ups.

Just use whatsapp. That's all I do, and it's far better than any text.

 

Edit: Although you're reliant on the other user having it installed, but most folk do.
