TDI PD or CR

Recommended Posts

Not being mechanically minded I decided to peer under the bonnet of my 190 DSG and saw TDI printed on the plastic engine cover.  I know that TDI stands for Turbo Diesel Injection but is my engine PD or CR?.

Common Rail

The only PD engines that were any good were the 1.9 flavour. PD's have been out of the picture for quite a while now anyway

Yeah, the PD engines are an older tech, pretty much phased out about 6 or 7 years ago now I think.

Oh and btw, VW say TDI stands for Turbocharged Direct Injection as the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder unlike older, indirect engines.

I thought ALL diesel engines operated with direct injection until I confirmed with wiki you were right.

Never done learning.
