MartiniB you haven't managed to find where the YY.MM is published in those files. Reckon it's not in the ascii readable ones. @pcbbc add our software expert to this.

 

This is the question of which is most up-to-date Skoda, VW or Seat.

i haven't ever used to USB method update, mine Amundsen updates form OTA

at February it had 23.2

and now it's 23.9

Interesting it gives assorted file links for each screen size.

 

Without seeing the release year as YY.MM I'm advising people to stick with the VW direct mib3 map file links since they are always the most up to date for mib2 if you don't have the connect services contract. I suspect @pcbbc would be able to read within the files to find the YY.MM. It must be in there.

 

We have established like mib2 high, mib3 Map files are interchangeable across the Vag brand as expected and for mib3 there is no mapcare issues for Seat as there were for mib2 high e.g.. same status for updates as VW and Skoda. Not sure of Audi. Income generation for map material is via connect services now for the brands.

 

Last time I looked the Skoda download was very old. I'm think similar to your mib2 high offline files, the mib3 direct links can be usefully published.

 

 

Seat's showing the June 2022 at the minute which is 21.7 according to the documentation. Its that YY.MM which must be in the file that i'e yet to find. That website is a year behind the VW one.

 

I started this thread off on the Seat side with information on how to do the offline maps with the VW direct link, saves registering:

Question for a newb.  How do I know if I have a MIB2.5 or MIB3?   I have a MY21 Skoda Superb Sportline (280 - Aus).

And is the procedure the same for either?

The other simple check:

 

If usb-c sockets it's mib3

 

If usb-a socket, SD card slot and a CD/DVD slot mib2 if manufactured 2015-2019. 2020 saw mib3 introduced by Vag.

 

Mib3 has a blanking plate in the glove box where you'd see the SD and CD/DVD slots of mib2.

 

Then if it is a mib2 whether it's a mib2 standard or mib2 high. First uses SD for navigation. Second SSD for the maps. Columbus mib2 is a mib2 high unit. Each Vag brand gave it's own name to the standard and the high but generically standard or high, SD based mapping or SSD held maps.

So 2Gb map files are loaded on the usb. Will put in the usb c slot when driving tomorrow. Anyone able to give me an indication how long a drive for that size file to transfer to MIB3?

It's the same process as VW - see attached. Yes you just wait but presentation is important as it is with mib2 high. Cleanmydrive if using a Mac to remove Mac rubbish.

Don't use an usb-a to usb-c adaptor once plugged in. Use a usb-c memory stick or a combined reversible one. That's another issue. Adaptors pass voltage not, data. That's come up on mapping and firmware updates of the upload into mib3 not happening due to the connection of a usb-a only memory stick via adaptors / cable.

That isn't correct. Some adaptors do only pass voltage and are designed for charging things only. Most adaptors nowadays pass data also. Just ensure if you buy one that it mentions data or similar in it's description, or ask the seller.

Well it's been known. Off eBay or Amazon you get what they are selling. On the Seat board people have stumbled with their bought firmware updates. I've referred them back to the retrofit seller and it's turned out it was the adaptor when I've chased them up. On this board they tell you to use the reversible ones if your port is usb-a only on the PC / laptop. That's on their guidance to map imports in mib3. Having additional bouncy connections won't help also an issue. Cheap enough to buy a reversible one for the job.

adaptors are ok with Mib3, to upload Radio Logos database, i used

Original Škoda's USB-C to USB-A + USB-A to SDHC + SD Card FAT32

 

since this year, will have to try also for maps, i can't see any reason to pay €50 for online updates,

purchased just online connect, €40 / year

 

 

I did wonder how much you were unravveling from connect services. Is it true that you can knock them onto Wi-Fi and do it thay way or do you still get done for the online connect payment. Here you'd never get a decent 4g signal for a reliable update on the drive that way. Rural Wales with rolling hills 4g doesn't get down the other side 🤔... not very strong. 2g electric smart meter fine. I do get home wifi on the drive for coding. 😉.

 

I'd still buy the reversible usb or do it on my laptop which has usb-c on it. Take out the wobbly stuff.

Adapter worked fine for me.

You can always simulate that it's working with a laptop with usb-c and see whether anything is going over on it. There have been sufficient moans on boards about nothing happening when plugged in using them when we know the reason and the wrong ones are bought... I'll have to check my two one of these day. 😉. Just a neat solution having a reversible one.

 

Then you got the pin out as they brought in usb3 on usb-a. I wonder whether those adaptors hit all the pins (probably why they say usb3 in the adverts means they do). There is a back row of pins. Speed test domain. You'd have to oggle in side any bought and laying about. I got bitten by a usb-a extension cable I had knocking about once which suffered from the reduced pin out of the original USB spec. Then bought a usb3 usb-a extension cable, the correct one for the job. The old cable ground the speed down to the original speed of the spec.

 

If it's written that way with usb-c the adaptor it will work but if it's written with usb-a then you got the issue of whether it's the correct one for the job. Those Chinese imports.

 

I'll leave this here 😉. The issues will circulate on what pins these adaptors actually connect.

Give the low cost of the reversible usb-a / usb-c memory sticks compared with the cost of an adaptor if you have to use usb-a you might as well invest in a reversible stick. That's the logic of what is being said. It's a Skoda recommendation elsewhere on the board and as I said I found someone's Seat firmware update failed to work after buying the update but using an adaptor, the root cause was the adaptor. The people that say the map update isn't working for me may well have a problematic adaptor although there are mutters about the firmware release that you read.

I am new to MIB3 coming from a SII.

I did not renew the connect with Skoda after I got the car. It just had a couple of weeks left over from the free contract I guess.

I turned the WLAN on in the head unit which then told me that it will not use the sim any more.

 

What data / updates will the Superb get via Wifi / our router?

 

Are map updates only possible through a 65GB SD card or memory stick via the car's USB-C?
