Well, Hello...

Featured Replies

At lunchtime today my wife took possession of her new, silver, Fabia vRS. First impressions (now I've been allowed a stint behind the wheel); wow, what a car. Were it not for the fact that my dodgy knees and being able to seat four adults in comfort require me to have a Volvo S80 as my wheels of choice I would have no qualms in running a Fabia myself. I'm still thinking about that surge forward when the loud pedal is depressed. What a cracking motor.

Look forward to giving it a little blast around the A roads of Wales in the not too distant future.

This seems like a friendly site and will see me spending a bit of time here when I'm not at another equally friendly site, and regular haunt; www.v70xc.com - just the place to pop into if you're interested in all wheel drive Volvos, which I suspect none of you are!

In poorer times when I was running my Skoda Estelle (I'll not hear a bad word said against them) it was not uncommon for owners to greet each other with a friendly wave - well, we needed something to cheer ourselves up, we were derided 24/7!! Do vRS owners practice such a ritual?

Welcome Slender !

I've got an Octavia RS (sometimes referred to as the Real RS) and I wave to other RS drivers. Most of the time you get amusing looks, but sometimes it leads to a quick wave back.

Q.

Welcome to the site, Slender :)

Unfortunately nowadays fellow vRS owners - upon meeting - will typically squabble about which colour car is best, or if the fabia 'RS or octavia 'RS has more torque/bhp/"bling".

I believe they exchange waves upon spotting one another, but don't bother with us mere mortals in non-vRS skodas... (they're jealous that we had a full colour range to pick from when we purchased our cars)

Only joking of course... they're all ok really.... :D

Welcome slender

If your after room for you and your passengers, have a look at the Superb next time your at your local Skoda dealer. You will be surprised what you get for your money.

 Welcome! Be careful on those welsh A-roads. I didn't fare so well on them - the regulars here know what I mean... whooops! ;)

Blimey! What a welcoming place this is, I can wait days for replays in Volvo land - probably down to the arthritic fingers of my fellow owners, don't tell them I told you!

Quinten; Before I became a flat-cap Volvo man I did in fact have a close cousin to your car, an Octavia 1.8 20V Auto. Great machine but had to go due to the driving position crippling my dodgy right knee.

Kentish; I have closely checked out the Superb, looking to buy one to replace the aforementioned Octavia. Whatever you may think of them, Volvo have probably the finest seats in the business this side of a Bentley.

The other problem was the lack of a split/fold rear seat to enable my mountain bike to go in. A cracking motor, though, I do agree.

Devonutopia: Are we talking the dreaded vertical, roadside, sleeping policeman or have you become closely acquainted with some foliage???

Nice to hear from you, folks.

This kind of sums up what I did. This is only "some" of the damage Call it "lose it on bend at 60, go up bank, flipped over twice, generally knackered car...." :D

Hi Slender,

My Dad has just demo'd a new Volvo S40 T5 Auto and it looks the part. I'll forgive him as he's an old giffer but he does like my Fabia, a bit too much sometimes, last time I gave him the keys I got it back it was filthy and ave consumtion was 35 mpg.

An old giffer, Ross!! Sounds like my kind of bloke!

Good car that S40 T5. Had a little blast in a manual last week. Twas rather brisk, but, and I'm not sucking up here, the Fabia was the more memorable drive.

welcome to the site slender,

we are all a friendly bunch here,and volvo's,my dad runs a S40 T4,'51 reg.

very nice car, quick and easily forgotten by other drivers.

he prefers my vRS Octy as it looks a bit more purposeful than the S40.

 Slender, you arn't from wirral by any chance? C.J.

Nope, Midlander.

Slender...if you want to carry your mountain bike..do as I do.

Have a swan neck tow bar, then get a Pendle 4-bike rack for a swan neck. Job solved....4 bikes can be carried safe and secure without risk of damage to you, your bike or car...and the inside stays clean as well.

ps..Pendle do other racks for fixed balls as well as lesser capacity racks.

Sorry fellah, just that I saw a new silver fab going out of our main dealer Positive you'll be extatic with it, like I am with mine.Posted a review on it in here last night :thumbup: Cheers C.J.

Thanks for the advice, Andy, but, I can safely transport my Specialized Enduro and my wifes Specialized Hardrock in the boot with the rear seats dropped. Well away from prying eyes as well. Only the front wheels need removing (off the bike that is, not the car!) and in they go. You should see the looks on peoples faces when these two bikes are pulled out of the boot. You're right about keeping the inside of the car clean but I must confess to being one of those obsessive types who keeps his car immaculate at all times. It's a curse, you know.

I know, I am very much afflicted.

We also get some looks, if its just mine and my m8,s full susser Marins, or the families in which case its a full susser Marin or Orange Clockwork, then Specialised Rockhopper, then Voodoo (cant remember model) then youngest 24 " wheel red thing.

Which ever it is, it sure attracts a lot of admiring looks.

:P Cheers andy, just downloaded my requirements to them. Will wait in anticipation :) C.J.

;) Hey Slender,be glad your new aquisition ain't in black magic, and yes you were right andy,it's a right old bitch to keep clean :( but it gets me out of the house and decorating, and it don't 'arf look good when it's done :D C.J.

Welcome to Briskoda slender. Lots of fellow Fabia vRS owners on board including myself. Hope you and your wife have as much fun with it as I do with mine. :D
