  1. Massive thanks to Pab567 for all his help getting me up and running again 😎 Mib2 and upgraded screen. I now have music again! Skoda wanted £1300 to replace the old MIB1 unit.
  2. Latest firmware confirmed. Im picking the car up tomorrow and back to the drawing board until I decide which way to go.
  3. I'm not sure about getting the coding out the original unit - it only seems to stay on for about 10 seconds before it locks up and crashes. I dont have any VCDS software or the likes, so I'm not clued up on any of this if I'm honest :)
  4. Hi Sasha, i have dropped pab567 a PM to see what he thinks. Skoda are quoting me £1000+ just to replace the MIB1 unit in the glovebox. The area of concern for me is all the 'coding'. I have seen MIB1s on ebay for a reasonable price, but i assume there is more to it than just removing the CP - do all the car features (xenon corner lighting settings / vRS mode etc) need programming in? Or would it be a case of just removing the CP and plugging it in? For the price Skoda are quoting, i'd sooner look at an upgraded set-up (mainly for the newer screen). Features wise, i just want to retain what I had - Nav / DAB / Phone etc, on a sensible budget. The car is testing my patience somewhat I'd be happy to get it back up and running as it was if i could achieve this on a reasonable cost. At the same time, i'd be prepared to throw £600 at it if it got me a better set-up.
  5. If i pull the fuse out, and re-fit, the system will then boot up for about 10 seconds (long enough to enable / disable vRS mode etc). After this, it will become unresponsive and not work. The dealer mentioned high voltages last time, after 4 hours diagnostics and requested I booked it in for further diagnostics. Now they have spent more time on it and confirmed the MIB1 is at fault (which they ruled out at the first visit). They say Italian electrics are dodgy - i don't get any of this with my 16 year old Alfa
  6. Update - the car is now at the dealers for further analysis, and they have determined the headunit in the glove box is at fault (with a nice quote to replace!). With all the information in relation to CP removal and coding in of a replacement unit, how feasible and cost effective is it going to be for me to purchase a unit from Ebay and look at getting it coded in by a 3rd party? I feel the 4-figure sum quoted by Skoda is a tad overkill, and would put me in-line for an upgrade to a newer unit with larger screen for the same costs. Many thanks, Rob.
  7. Hi all, I'm just looking for some advice on an issue i've started having with the Car since Lock-down (so a fair few weeks now). I have a 2014 vRS with the small screen / MIB1 set-up. I've not long bought the car off a family member who had it from new (typically, no issues when he had it), to replace my 2012 Mk 2.5 vRS (hindsight is a wonderful thing). Anyway, the problem is the screen locked up and stopped responding when driving home. I could originally get the screen to come on for about 10 seconds, then everything locks up and the system is un-responsive - no radio, Nav, Phone, vRS options, Car settings - nothing is work-able. Pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds reboots the system and lets me back in for another 10 seconds before it locks up. Eventually, i cant get in at all - i can see the screen comes on (I can see the back-light), but no splashscreen with the vRS logo or anything. I'm informed this is a fail-safe of the head-unit. if i pop the fuse out for the head-unit (and replace obviously), i then get the system on again, with the same 10-second problem. I had the car in at Skoda this week for a major service and have paid the extra £100 for the diagnostics on the unit. Not bad value considering their head technician spent 4 hours looking at it while i waited!! Anyway, they couldn't fix it and want me to re-book the car in for further work. They did provide me with the following information: The hardware is okay - it is a CAN-BUS issue. Apparently i am getting a high voltage showing on the circuit and they need to diagnose further where this high voltage is coming from? Either a module on the network, or a wiring fault? I'm no auto electrician, so not sure on what is involved in this. I find it hard to believe it could be a wiring fault that just comes on so suddenly on a relatively new car? (I have a 16 year old Alfa Romeo in the garage at home, and ALL its electrics work fine!). I also have suspicions about the fault, as it come on the same time i jumped into the car with 2x Mobile phones in my pocket - 1 of which is my works mobile which was connected to the car for calls. The other is my new personal phone (Samsung S8) which did have its bluetooth turned on - never connected to the car before, but was connected to my old Skoda. I had another little trial-and-error process in the driveway today - isolating the touchscreen by removing the fuse for it. I feel the touchscreen must be fine, as with the fuse out and the main headunit booted up - as soon as i make the touch screen live, the screen comes on and the system is already locked up at the menu screen. So, any advice on this one? Skoda want me to book the car in at £70 an hour for a full day to fault find it, which is where i am up to at the moment. I've only had the car a few months and its had a full timing belt kit, a major service, it's due brakes and tyres, and now the Infotainment doesn't work..... I find myself back on autotrader far too often Many thanks. Rob
  8. So after 2 1/2 years and 55,000 miles, i'm looking to sell the MK2 FL and get into a Mk3 vRS! Hopefully i can use the for sale section in here to advertise, as this is where i found her originally :) thanks all and i hope to be back soon in the mk3!

  10. We head up there a lot, Colin. Love it up there. I try to have at least 3 holiday / camping trips a year up to the Highlands. I'm sure the Octavia will swallow up a lot of camping gear with minimal fuss

Hi all, After many years having a username on here (My dad owns a Mk1 Octy vRS and I almost bought a Fabia vRS many moons ago), i have finally shuffled my car situation around and have a 2012 Octavia vRS TDi Estate as my new daily steed. Car is great so far, doing everything i need of it. I even opted for a DSG to be ultra lazy and relaxed during my daily commutes. Hopefully this will accompany my Alfa GT V6 nicely and give many years of good use - expecially for Scotland camping trips! Recently purchased from MattUpNorth from here
  12. update, the car was found in Bradford, up an embankment, it is well mashed, chassis broken / twisted all over. apparently there is a lot of goings on in Bradford, cars for order!
