  1. I'm baffled. Went to garage with some noise and they advised changed driveshaft. Driveshaft changed and I have a new and more worrying sounding noise! Around and over 3.5rpm the car makes a noticable vibration noise. Doesn't mater what gear or speed, or even out of gear! Any suggestions please, garage can't work it out! 2002 64k miles. Fsh.
  2. Ok. Thanks. I'll give it a go.
  3. Hi, I have searched but can't find my specific problem. Can anyone help please. When I lock and unlock my car 2002 vrs, the central locking works on all doors and the boot, but not on the passenger rear door. I can manually lock and u lock the door no problem. It's like the electric signal to that door is dead. Where should I start looking for the solution. I'm not an amazing mechanic, but happy to try most simple things! Thanks in advance.
  4. Thanks for the suggestion, I've had coolant temp sensor go on my previous vrs and that simply showed some weird coolant reading on the display. Would it more likely be the air intake temperature sensor? The one on the throttle body?
  5. Anyone have any suggestions please. Mk1 VRS is a nightmare when cold. Starts fine then judders and splutters even after the sai has done it's thing. When warmed up it seems down on power and turbo seems to dump early and too quick when I lift off. Changed MAF and cleared fault codes 17705 p1297, 17546 p1138 and 177548 p1140. The DV seems fine too. Last night I disconnected the MAF and drove it, the issue was still there. This morning I reconnected the MAF, but didnt clear fault codes and it started then spluttered and died! Disconnected the MAF again and it stayed running! Anyone have any ideas please? Fault codes returned after I replaced the MAF, I'm aware I could have fitted a faulty MAF too, but any other suggestions please. Vag com bank 32 reading is -5.4%
  6. I've recently bought my second mk1 VRS and started to compare the option codes in the front of the service book.it turns out that my latest VRS has something called a digital sound package. I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find what this is....! It wasn't fitted to my 2003 model. My new model is a 2002. Anyone know what this is?
  7. I've been told by two different mechanics now that it's the gearbox. So I've found a used one with a 3 month warranty for £300. A mechanic I know is fitting it for me for a decent price. So I'm not too depressed about it all at the moment. Thanks for all the suggestions though.
  8. Still none the wiser on my front end drumming/rumble noise. First garage (ture and exhaust centre type garage) had a look and said that there wasn't much play in the front wheels and he thought it was dual mass noise, so recommended new clutch and flywheel. Second garage came out for a drive with me and didn't think it was dual mass noise, he thought it could be gearbox or even wheel bearings etc as there was quite a bit of clunking from the nsf wheel! I'm confused now!
  9. Just read on another forum that this could be related to excess play in the wheel somewhere. It does seem to come more from N/S/F wheel so will check it tomorrow. Also the last MOT advisory said excess play in ball joints/cv joints etc etc... Does this seem right to people? By the way, i've just bought the car tonight, so still learning about its good and bad bits!!!
  10. I have a mk1 VRS and when I decelerate there is an audible grinding noise. The best way to describe the sound is that of a piece of card stuck in a bicycle wheel spoke. The slightest touch of the accelerator and the noise goes. It also makes the noise as I change gears. Any suggestions?
  11. Just been to look at buying a Mk2 VRS Tfsi as a replacement for my recently written off Mk1. The bodywork wasn't in great condition, but I can over look that. There were a few mechanical noises that I want to get looked at but otherwise, I may be interested. That aside, my wife absolutely must have parking sensors! I know that you can buy aftermarket kits, but how easy is it to put a proper OEM set on? The car has Maxidot and stream audio system. Thanks for any advice.
  12. Yes she does! It's not a skoda or vw and therefore some buttons might be in a different location!!!
  13. Still available? I'm waiting on the insurance company to decide the fate of my Mk1 Octavia vRS, but this looks like the sort of thing that could tempt me away from Skoda. As the car will largely be driven by my wife, I need to convince her really.
