  1. Name : Stu Engine : 1.2 TSI Model : SE Colour : Muscovado Location : Canterbury, Kent Picking it up tomorrow!
  2. Hello again all Looks like everything has moved on lots here! Stopped coming on Briskoda at the start of 2009 when I sold my Octy1 VRS and got a Ford S-max for the family / sprogs. Am rejoining because I have finally convinced my wife to trade in her 10 year old Ibiza, and am picking up a pre-reg 1.2 TSI Yeti with 10 miles on the clock tomorrow from Motorline in Canterbury. Obviously no real performance etc but I did like the feel and space of the Yeti and the 1.2 had more grunt than I thought, so am looking forward to the experience. Only problem is that it is Muscovado metallic which I thought looked ok, given as a pre-reg I didn't have a choice, but the wife has now called it "poo brown" ... and the kids have decided to follow suit! Anyway happy to be back and to see Briskoda is as busy, active and useful as ever. Cheers Stu
  3. Have seen a black lowered one, with very bling wheels and i'd say your description is pretty spot on
  4. I know the feeling, i'm still not sure that it is really me but at least the S-max is a bit better looking than most MPVs and, as you say, at £15k new I couldn't really argue too strongly against it
  5. Well after having my Octy since late 2002 (I think!) I decided that now was probably a good time to try and get a good deal for an update. Looked at a variety of new cars from the Octy 2 RS, Octy 2 Scout, Mondeo etc and then after all that i've now ordered a new S-Max 2.0 TDCi Titanium in metallic Sea Grey  . It is a bit of a change but was looking for a car that had a bit more width for 3 kiddie seats across the back (which most saloons / hatches do struggle with) but was also not a van with windows. S-Max has had very good reviews and it seems a nice package and handles well. The clincher in the end was the price I could get - drivethedeal were doing them for £17,500 OTR with 12 months tax and as my brother works for Ford I also got £2,500 off with the Ford Privilege scheme - at £15,000 it is a lot of car for the money Due to pick it up first week of March. Will be sad to leave Skoda as have loved my Octy but time to move on - will have to keep an eye on what the next offerings are from Skoda for when my wife needs her Ibiza changed Happy Skoda-ing guys
  6. Haven't got any piccies with me but i've still got a 1958 Minor Convertible in Old English White. Not completely original as I completely rebuilt it from bare metal up in about 1990 - also meant replacing the trafficators with normal indicators. Used to travel to and from university in Scotland from Canterbury in it which led to some long trips.
  7. Must admit that was what I thought which made me question what on earth the two different prices are about.
  8. Have been looking at getting an Octavia Diesel Scout Estate and went on drivethedeal to look at prices. It currently lists under Octavia diesel estates "new models" and "other models" for this with both listing a 2.0TDI PD 4x4 5dr. If you ask for the price on "new models" it gives you a price of: £17,795 If you ask for the price on "other models" it gives you a price of: £15,394  Any idea what the differences on this might be - is this related to the facelift? If so, does anyone really believe the price differential for the facelift model is worth it? Cheers for any advice / help
  9. Yep very disappointing :( I have used them lots since they started up and always found them good - luckily had used the last of my 10 trip vouchers. Must admit I loved the fact they went into Boulogne as well as its a nice place for a day trip / eating / shopping.
  10. Must admit that having known Huck at Uni his advice / positive feedback on the Octy helped convince me ... if I had known that he likes to change cars more than I have sleeps I might not have been quite so reassured
  11. Not one of the founders but was looking for an Octy in the old VWvortex days and came over when Briskoda started and got my Octy. Still got the same Mk1 Octy and its worth so little now I don't see any point in changing it ... although if deals get very good might try and get a cheap Scout
  12. Must admit that I agree with Fluffy Bunny in some ways. I have become really disillusioned with the WRC as it has become more and more boring as a contest as: - manufacturers have pulled out leaving very few "works" or WRC cars; - big differentials between the ability / speed of those works cars remaining; - the shortening of all rallies and elimination of the long distance & really tough rallies meaning the attritional aspects of rallies rarely throw up unusual results. Loeb does appear brilliant as a driver (and I will never denigrate the ability of rally drivers in general) but I do think its a shame that Loeb hasn't had to face the strength in depth of competitors (cars and drivers) and differing styles of rallies of the old days (late 70s and 80s). The continuing focus on short special stages makes WRC rallying far more roundy roundy than it should be IMHO :(. Anyway to Seb
  13. See the BBC response to questions on crash.net for what they intend to do. It doesn't sound too bad (commentators excepted ). BBC responds to you! | MOTOGP News | Crash.Net
  14. ... that was the problem with the old Alfas we used to have (GTVs, Suds and Sprints) - great cars but they did occasionally break () and the dire dealers, time for parts to arrive on the slow boat from Italy and costs were a real downer.
  15. The cost of the car is almost irrelevant in these sorts of situations though in that the real risk that they are covering is for any third party liability claims - which could be huge. I know some motor insurers specifically prefer younger drivers who have cars of a reasonable value (i.e. above £5,000) and for the drivers to want to purchase comprehensive cover ... as they believe these drivers are more likely to want to look after the car and drive more safely than someone who has a banger, only wants TPFT and doesn't care about the car or what he does with it. You can sort of see the logic in that but, like anything, it certainly doesn't follow in all cases.
