  1. Cheers guys, had a go anyway did need the keys just to get it a snug fit also took glove box out to ensure cables hadn't trapped. The wiring was fine last person used an audio block adapter. All tested, fitted and working
  2. Hi folks, Slightly puzzled by something and can't find the right answer so here goes... A friend has recently bought a mk1 VRS and it has had an aftermarket headunit fitted which is just useless and even worse audio than what is standard fitment. I have sourced him a headunit (and changer as that had been removed) and wired it all back up, tested it all and is working fine. Now the main question does the original symphony stereo sit inside of a cage of and description, there was a cage surrounding the old headunit but the symphony just won't fit inside... Ideally if anyone has a picture of the symphony removed with whats left would be ideal or just a simple - should be a cage or shouldn't. Cheers
  3. Had a quick look can't see any part numbers for clips or how it fixes on. Pic listed is this....
  4. Was about two and a half hours, I think didn't pay too much attention to the time was enjoying the sunshine!
  5. Ok slightly drastic action but then the car has not MOT and is just sat up for a few months anyway. Had a rear door leak issue with standing water along the door sill, changed a few bits on the door etc but still not fixed, also previous owner had spilt some coke down the handbrake area and due to the car being sat up and damp the mould started to grow.... So today was going to be getting the seats out and to clean it all up..... well so I thought.. Found a lovely hole in the floor pan, unsure how it happened but can only assume something happened with it's previous owners as I haven't ever jacked it up that side, I am wondering if someone used the floor pan as a jacking point. Ah well at least I was out in the sunshine!
  6. The battery is dead, and about to be replaced but should I be aware or anticipate any issues once I reconnect the battery... The car had been left in situ for about 10 weeks, has not moved, the handbrake has been left on, car was not started throughout the cold snap. Am I going to suffer any issues with starting or immobiliser/alarm issues? (Mine does have a factory fitted alarm system) Thanks in advance :-)
  7. Was going to suggest the same as the above poster.. If it's an ex plod car then it could be a run lock system that they had installed, which basically allows us to keep car running remove key and then make the car safe whilst were chasing the baddies!
  8. Some good ideas there... Sadly I haven't got a boot full of cash, and certainly haven't had any dealings with frenchman! It is more an oily, fuel type richness smell, I will be trying the aircon deodouriser, the car has recently has the y-shaped breather changed as it had split. Thanks for the help folks.
  9. Any ideas what may cause this? At times there is a strong rich smell inside the car, noticed more last night as it made me feel quite ill.Have tried a brief search but not found much. Edit: car is the mrs car which is an 02 VRS
  10. I guess you could buy or source OE Xenon parts etc but I am sure they would come with a hefty price tag too. A quick ebay search found this... SKODA OCTAVIA all Models HID Xenon Conversion KIT on eBay (end time 11-Nov-09 19:01:24 GMT) May be worth a look?
  11. Argh I want to buy one but the mrs has said no for now too much coming out at the moment!!
  12. Scanner Fault Error Tool for Skoda Octavia Fabia Superb on eBay (end time 29-Oct-09 18:51:31 GMT) That is the one I bought, also didn't have a clue about this sort of stuff before I found car owner forums. Today I have just changed spark plugs and a pair of problematic coil packs, once all finished started engine, realised the engine management was still showing so code reader plugged in code was historical code erased that one and then test drive. All fine and dandy and no EML showing.
  13. Sorry I re-read what I typed, I didn't mean it to sound so flippant lol!!!
