  1. Well done to the idiots yesterday who dived into this section and behaved like the school irritant. I actually get the impression they thought they were being funny at times but they were not, just pitiful. Anyway the consequence is that this forum is going to leak both decent people and also a very strong knowledge base. I suspect a good number of contributors will disappear and their knowledge and humour go with them. This site will be poorer for it, but hey the irritants wont care. They will just go back to Octavia/Fabia/Superb land and swagger about how clever they are.
  2. Freshacre - you may be on your way out but you are going with some oommpphhhh. The general point is interesting though. If tyres have been separated out as "everyone may have an interest, not just Yeti owners" then where does it end. Should this go in an oil thread as all Skodas use oil? Should a question about brake pads go in a brakes section? Hopefully tomorrow will get back to normal and sanity will resume.
  3. I picked up on that as well but was too annoyed to reply in a coherent manner so left it alone. Now I have calmed down and so can agree. If moderator want to move things that is up to them, even if I don't agree, but the negative tosh that has appeared today has all come from people driving cars that are not directly relevant to this section of the site. Maybe I'll go on a VW site tomorrow, they use the same diesel engine as mine, and give them a load of unwarranted stick. Then again maybe I have better things to do. This has been a bad day.
  4. Yeti, Yeti,Yeti (does that make this okay? Yes, great) I left work at 3pm today and after following, and contributing, to the main thread of the day I was angry and full of hell regarding a few non Yeti owners who seemed determined to dive in and irritate the hell out of the decent people on this forum. Their posts seemed almost semi organised, have I watched too many episodes of Spooks?, in a hugely negative way. I decided not to read any more of that thread, I think at some point I would have cracked, sworn, been abusive and been banned, but would continue looking at other posts, unless they were all infiltrated. Then I came across this thread, with no inflitrators sent by the CIA, KGB or SMERSH. Instead I found the familiar YETI (did you like what I did there?) humour and friendly banter that I have come to expect. Rejoice. Hopefully this thread will remain here as a guid for YETI owners who may want to put Hankooks on the car. Keep the updates coming, as someone who recently bought 4 tyres and trawled the web looking for advice I can confirm it will be appreciated.
  5. The French are very good at the small car, Clio, C3, 207 which is why the Fabia may not be common place. I suspect that it a tough sector to crack in France, a bit like trying to sell an executive car in Germany that is not German. I think someone previously mentioned as well that the Skoda network is not great in France.
  6. My tyre bloke is exactly the same, maybe it is in their training. I drove home on my new tyres for the first time last night and the ride was so much smoother and quieter, to the extent where I went over the limit on a few occasions as the noise levels were so reduced. To balance that however it must be said that going from tyres with 3-4mm tread to new 8mm tread is bound to make a difference. It is like driving your car after a service.
  7. Is that the recommendation for these types of tyres? I have had my All Seasons fitted today and I was going to run them at the same pressure as my standard Dunlops, 32 front and back.
  8. I agree that is how it is usually portrayed. I only noticed as this is the first time I have had to replace 4 tyres in one go and I also wanted All Season Tyres which made things a little more awkward. This lead me to research tyres, prices etc on the web far more than I had done in the past. I reckon the price difference for a same brand/style tyre is around £25 which is not insignificant. Some mfrs also do not offer their tyres in the Yeti 17" size, Vredestein being a good example, when the 16" version is widespread.
  9. Johann - The main difference being then that the range on offer, and the pricing, is vastly better for 16" compared to 17". Perhaps a number of the 16" brigade are thinking of their wallets, and as someone who has just paid for 4 new tyres I am with them.
  10. I suspect you are not alone there with your thoughts. I have had car tyre punctures before but when I have taken them to get repaired I have never bothered to watch. The only tyre I have repaired myself is a bike one, an inner tube inside the outer tyre. I just assumed a car tyre was the same. Anyway, I now have a new respect for the humble car tyre which manages to transport around a fair old weight with nothing else to support it, I just wont mention this to other people as their laughter is off putting.
  11. Of course it is hokey maths, you are trying to get a car that you REALLY want rather than one you can afford. Therefore you manipulate the figures like a Greek treasury minister to convince everyone, including yourself, that you can justify it. Blokes have been doing this for years and I doff my cap to anyone who can get away with it, especially if you manage to get that XF. Best of luck.
  12. Actually no. I have just spoken to one of our regular delivery drivers and he explained how it works. Very clever but how would you know that if it was not explained? I don't spend my weekends taking cars apart or wondering how they work. I get in them and drive. If the tyres look low I pump them up and I assumed it would be like a bicycle tyre set up, which I have taken apart to fix in the past. Everything is obvious once you know it.
  13. Blimey, I am amazed at that. They must use a cracking glue to seal the tyre to the rim. Incredible when you think of the pressure of the weight of the car and the speeds they go at. Even hitting a pot hole, how does that not move the rubber from the rim? This news has shaken my day.
  14. Can I have a gormless moment please. I have just bought 4 new tyres from Mytyres. They arrived, an outer tyre. People here are talking about buying steel rims but no one talks about an inner tube. Am I being stupid here? Do you have to buy them separately or do they come with the rims?
