Help diagnosing possible thermostat issue?
Vrs_Sean replied to BigJakk's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
My MkII vrs had the same symptoms. Replaced the thermostat and it never moves from 90 degrees. Sent from my SM-T310 using Tapatalk -
I had a similar problem. Spinning in 1st, 2nd & 3rd, even on good, dry surfaces. The wheel alignment was wrong and it shredded the front tyres in no time. New tyres and correct alignment and it is much better. It still spins in first and second but not so easily. No loss of traction in 3rd now,

Octy II Vrs Thermostat DIY Job?
Vrs_Sean replied to Vrs_Sean's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
My symptoms were the same as Pauls but the temp dropped to 50-60 degrees when up to speed. Not been on a run to check fuel consumption since changing the thermostat.- 10 replies

Octy II Vrs Thermostat DIY Job?
Vrs_Sean replied to Vrs_Sean's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Thanks guys. The video is really good but also makes me think its too much for me. I think I will get it sorted at the garage.....its pricey but will save me a days work plus the cost of the tools I don't have.- 10 replies

My thermostat is showing symptoms of being stuck open. I would class myself as a novice when it comes to car DIY skills. Is this a DIY job for a novice? Cheers Sean

Cheers brad1.8T. Your comments put my mind at ease but I think I will get it changed as soon as I can. I don't want any unnecessary wear or damage for the sake of a few quid. Sean

Thanks for the reply Silver1011. I will get back to them as soon as I can and get it changed. I am on an annual service plan and only cover about 7000 miles a year. It only gets driven had when I am in and that is not very often :-( so I am not too worried, just a bit annoyed.

Hi I have a 2006 Petrol Octavia II vRS. Just had it serviced and found they used a semi-synthetic oil. I have been through the forums and know the correct oil to use. I have no way of getting it changed for a week or so but have a long journey this weekend. Am I putting my engine at serious risk of damage or would it be ok for a couple of weeks? Cheers Sean

I would make sure you have fully synthetic oil available as it will use quite a bit (within VAG tolerances). I have been caught out twice on long journeys - the oil light coming on and had to pay premium prices.

Vrs_Sean replied to GE02DZE's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
It is a massive boot. I use mine for camping and get stacks in there. -

Not sure what age you are after....I have an 06 petrol vrs and have been very happy with it. Petrol consumption - claims 36mpg... Realistic? How much do you get on average? On a motorway run I get around 33mpg if I take it fairly steady. Much less around town (as to be expected). Overall happy with the consumption/performance ratio Not sure about common faults....will leave that to the experts on here. Very happy with the gearbox (not got the dsg model). Low range power good, mid range fantastic. Steering & grip etc....you can throw it into sharp bends, long sweeping bends, brake very heavily and it seems to take all of it in its stride. Not noticed any surprises with the handling. You have to go pretty hard to upset it. It can struggle with 1st gear traction if you push it hard but once you are in 2nd you get a great surge of power. Extras....If I was buying now I would want Xenons (I like them) Radio with AUX input (for mp3 etc) Jumbo box (centre console) I have 18" wheels and the tyres are about £110 each. I believe that the oil needs topping up between services. Other than that I have had no expensive outlays. Good luck -
New contract time.. SG3? One X? Wait for Note II? Or..?
Vrs_Sean replied to JLneonhug's topic in The Technology Shed
I upgraded from a Desire HD to a One X a couple of months ago and I am very happy with the phone. The camera is fantastic and the screen is crystal clear. The Sat Nav connects instantly to GPS whereas it could take a minute or so on my DHD. Battery life similar or maybe a little worse than the DHD but not a problem. Jelly Bean due this month on HTC. The S3 is slightly quicker on paper but I think the differences are fractions of a second. In my opinion the One X feels sturdier and looks better than the S3 (others will disagree). Maybe try to get a One X+ as they are 4g (I think). Not sure what deals you would get. FYI I traded in my DHD 8 months early, and got a free One X on the same contract as before (£20 per month with Orange). This was in store at Phones 4 U. I am sure you would be more than happy with either the S3 or One X. -
New vRS owner, tyre advice needed
Vrs_Sean replied to MattyD's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Got Hankook Ventus V12 Evos on my vRS. Not too noisy. Good grip in wet and dry. £120 fitted. I have heard Falken 452 tyres are very good. Aren't most tyres summer tyres? Didn't think there was much need for winter tyres in the UK.
