  1. There's been a whining, droning sort of noise from the car (hard to pinpoint) for a while, with a quick, repeating, speed related knock from ahead of the passenger footwell when the car is unweighted over bumps etc (Not COMPLETELY unweighted, I'm not a lunatic) and when turning right under power. I've been under the car several times and can't feel anything loose, and I have been pushing and shoving things about properly. The engine is solid on its mounts. We had the car into the garage and the rear propshaft coupling was replaced, it seems to have reduced the din, but the machine gun rattle is still there. I'm thinking CV joint / driveshaft. If it it, what's the knock (no pun intended) on effect of the 600 mile drive we've got next weekend? There isn't a chance to sort it out til then at least. If it isn't, where else could the din be emanating from? It's got the underbody protection, and they're always a bit gravelly in there. I don't think it's that and the heatshields are all secure.
  2. New fuel filter has seemingly sorted the problem. Sweet as a nut this AM at 3 degrees C (Was always worse when cold)
  3. It only happens under load, and it happens nearly all the time under load, right across the rev range, in as many gears as it is legal and prudent to check on the public highway, but it's not like it's dropping a cylinder constantly, it is hesitant and jerky, full power, less than full power, full power, less than full, almost as quickly as you read it there. Backing off stops the problem, there is no evidence of any hesitancy at idle. Backing off forever is not an acceptable solution. Disconnected the MAF and took a short drive, no difference. No smoke (Well, no obvious black clag anyway, so whatever it's getting, it's burning)
  4. Oh yeah, no fault codes either (I've had the 'emmissions' light a couple of times, about 3 - 4 months ago, but nothing recently)
  5. My 2006, 35,000 mile vrs is 'missing' under load / boost. It started doing it back in the cold weather, and has continued since. It's like carbuerettor ice, in as much as I get power, then it misfires until I back off the accelerator and drive it under light load. I wonder if it could be a gummed up fuel filter, as I think it's still the original one on the car, or more likely a sticky injector, as it's as if a cylinder isn't firing from time to time, in a Diesel I'm guessing it's insufficient fuel going in. It's worst between 1500 and 3K RPM. I haven't put any system cleaner etc. through it yet, but this might be the first port of call. The headgasket seems to be OK, (Coolant level unchanged, oil filler cap clean)
  6. Cheers Tim The welsh bloke I spoke to in welsh wales said no. The very helpful indian lady in india (Jolene I think, good Indian name that one) said yes. Sorted.

  8. I've just rung up to put my shiny jabba ARB on my policy. And I can't. They can't find it on their list, and as such refused to cover me. Grrrrrrrrr. Ringing round as we speak.
  9. Nick Livingstone 35 yr old Air Traffic Controller at Aberdeen airport Live near Alford in Aberdeenshire Silver Fabia VRs with 312's, and a jabba ARB in the future.
  10. Well, I've got 312's on mine, and have had for a year or 2 now. The rest of the car is standard, and the brakes are superb, much less prone to fade than the standard ones. And when I sell it, I can stick the std brakes back on it. Jabba ARB arriving this week, and that'll be it for me and my mods. I only want bolt ons, nothing that will have to stay with the car if I decide to sell it.
  11. Looking at the top of the strut, the threaded top of the shock doesn't seem to be sitting centrally in the top mount........
  12. Hi What sort of place can I get a 4wa check done on my furby? I ****ed a rock a while ago, and it's wearing the inside of the affected (Front left) tyre, so badly I've had 3 (part worns) tyres down to the canvas. They're in the bin now, and I'm not driving the car until I get this sorted.:( I can't start it if it keeps flattening its battery anyway :thumbdwn: Ta
  13. SWMBO's car's a 170 bhp diesel golf, and a sensor in the 'zorst failed about 6 months ago, causing the DPF to fail to recognise that it was getting clogged. Since it's been fettled, it's been great. And it's pretty quick. Bet it breaks tomorrow.
  14. Stereo hasn't been changed, there is an MP3 adaptor, but it's been on for 2 1.2 years too. the car isn't getting much use atm, but would the alarm drain a decent batt in 3 weeks?
  15. Hi all it's been a while. I had a fall about 6 weeks ago, and my vrs' battery doesn't hold a charge. there's nothing plugged into the lighter / 12V socket, if I leave it for a week, it won't start without outside help. It's 2 1/2 yrs old. (As is the battery) 23K miles. Any ideas?
