Amateur / Ham / Two Way Radio Install
Craig A Rodway replied to tcanact's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Hello! I just have a regular Octavia (not estate) and spent a while getting everything installed. I put the radio (Kenwood TM-D700E) in the driver-side exposed cubby in the boot, and use the plastic clip strap to hold it in place. It's not perfect but it's fairly secure. Some sticky velcro hooks might help though. I couldn't find enough space or secure enough mounting on the passenger side cubby where the CD changer is. Display is mounted in the space for the ash tray, between gear stick and heater controls, and the speaker just sits in the space behind it. Cables: Power: +ve from the battery and -ve chassis earth mounting point. Cable goes through the grommet between engine bay and passenger footwell. Then into and then under all the trim on the passenger side. Up the side of the rear seats, then into the carpet trim in the boot area. It then crosses over in the boot, secured to the carpet, and then connects to the radio. Antenna: Cable runs down the plastic boot trim towards the hinge, and then runs inside the car down the plastic trim behind the rear passenger seat, then down into the boot area. Display, microphone and speaker: I ran 1x 3.5mm and 2x Cat5e cables from boot area behind carpet trim in boot into the rear passenger seat area, and down into the footwell. The cables then cross under the seat and under the centre tunnel. They then go along and up to an area just under the steering wheel. The speaker and display cables go up behind the centre console area and over towards the area under the steering wheel where the extensions come out at. Quite tricky to do depending on hand size, and I removed the top air vent storage box to get access. The microphone has a clip mounted behind/left of the steering wheel, and cable goes up and behind to the same area. I'll try and take some photos when it's light! M0PHP -
Another recommendation here to replace them with LEDs. I recently got three from LED Hut, who regularly have deals on making the bulbs quite cheap.

Skoda Fabia vrs mk1 vrs se tdi catches fire
Craig A Rodway replied to Bertjindal's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
One of my friends had a Golf that "spontaneously" caught fire whilst away on holiday. It started in the engine bay, there was a clear mark on the bonnet above the battery, and the cause was confirmed by investigators (insurance/fire) as electrical. -
Hi Chubbs I don't know of anything specific, but you might have some luck asking on HamRadioForum. Instead of, or as well as advertising, you might have some luck finding or contacting local clubs and seeing if there are any rallies on soon. 73, M0PHP.

vRS creaking passenger side rear
Craig A Rodway replied to jre's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I had a similar problem and the garage said it was the calliper. Replaced, and it's been fine since. -
I needed some pollen filter parts for my Fabia a while ago. I looked at Skoda Parts but the website didn't list what I wanted. They saw a post I put on here, and were able to get the part. Excellent service - if they don't have it, no harm in asking if they have it or can get hold of it

Hankooks any good on Fabia?
Craig A Rodway replied to WaveyDavey's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
I've had Hankooks all round on my vRS for over a year now. Got about 20k miles out of the first pair already, but the tread is getting down a bit now so will be replacing quite soon with more Hankooks (with a rear->front rotation half way through). I do a lot of motorway miles and don't really consider the noise a problem. The fuel efficiency and wet grip ratings are quite good from what I remember - at least compared to some of the others that are popular with the Fabia. The Hankooks were amongst the few types recommended to me by a Skoda dealership actually. -
I had a noise that I would describe in a similar way to that, and it turned out to be the brake calliper seizing on on one side.

Really sorry to hear about the collision today... glad everyone could walk away in one piece though

My gearbox is away for repair at the moment, so I'm looking to replace the clutch & DMF while I can. My question is... does anyone know what the difference is between the two Sachs clutches available from CP4L/ECP? 641441610 vs 641441900 - Sachs part numbers 3000950606 and 3000950702. I can see the visible differences in the photos, but don't know what that means or which one will be better for my vRS Thanks.

It's good to hear some great news, and it must be a great feeling for you being able to get on with things I have a close friend who's "been through the mill" with depression in the past, and (as well as professional support) they thoroughly recommend the book "Stop Thinking Start Living".

Yes, that light is for the "interlocking of the rear seats". Mine occasionally flashes as well, despite the seats being in position properly and having no movement at all. I decided not to worry about it and just ignore it as "one of those things"
