  1. How bad does the weather have to be for that to occur? Do you get told in the virtual cockpit?
  2. I have not noticed this indicator light. My eyes are glued to the road when overtaking. I must try it when they return my car.
  3. Restrictions over the past 15 months have varied depending on which city or state you live in but were as nothing compared to some other parts of the world. Here in Sydney we have gone from no restrictions at all since the beginning of the year to - due to a small outbreak this week - mask wearing in public and reduced numbers in houses or public venues such as restaurants or theatres. There is a threat of a "lockdown" soon if the number of unexplained cases rises but the numbers involved would look ridiculously small to people in the UK. Today saw 11 new cases in the whole of Sydney (5 million people). There has not been a Covid death in the whole of Australia for months. Only 910 since the pandemic started. We would have zero cases if it wasn't for occasional leaks from quarantine. Weather in Sydney today in early winter is a balmy 20 degrees. I suppose I am an honorary Yorkshireman too since I was born here (1951) to a Yorkshireman (1893-1974) who immigrated just after WW1.
  4. I have some of the same feelings. My wife's car is a 2015 VW Golf Alltrack and I think that is the best car I have ever driven. I was hoping the VRS would be very similar but better and in many ways it is but only if it is 100% reliable and fault-free. Also my own car for the last 19 years until 3 weeks ago was a Honda S2000 that I had had since new. In many ways that was the best car I have ever owned. It was certainly the most expensive. I loved driving it on a good day on a twisty road or on a racetrack but, on reaching my 70th birthday, I decided I had had enough of its noise and discomfort and wanted to pamper myself in my old age. Also to be able to take my grandkids in my own car without having to borrow my wife's. And the Skoda offered the same power and performance, albeit with a bit more weight and less sharp handling. Now I wonder if I have made the right choice. The S2000 has NO frills like cruise control or traction control or other driving aids, electronic or mechanical. It is pure motoring at its most basic. As a result there is little to go wrong. I drove it 270,000 KMs and it never let me down, although I did replace a few things that wore out, including the engine. Now it seems that all cars are going down this software-driven route maybe the most sensible thing would have been to buy a second-hand car of the previous generation, e.g. a low KMs example of my wife's car.
  5. Thanks. I had searched myself and found that one. It confirms that VW owners have these issues too although they do not seem to be as vocal as the Skoda owners on this site.
  6. Hi Jim. As I understand it from your posts you are generally pleased with the car and unless I have missed something this is the first significant issue you have encountered - the failure of your vehicle to save favourites. So I am intrigued by how quickly you seem to have moved to requests to repair or replace etc. I also have several faults which Skoda (here in Australia) have not been able to rectify in the three weeks I have had the car and I am wondering whether to give them a similar ultimatum. So far I have preferred to keep it friendly rather than businesslike. The details are in my topic: In neither your case nor mine do the faults seem to be a serious safety issue or mechanical failure, although mine encourage me to take my eyes off the road which reduces safety. But, like you, I worry about the likelihood of further software issues down the track, including as unexpected side-effects of a normal update. Especially when I read reports on this forum of more serious issues.
  7. Can you tell me the names/URLs of some these forums? If it is that widespread then there is some hope it will get fixed since the alternative is that VAG goes into terminal decline starting with the 8th generation. Mine is back in the shop again for 5 days this time while they try to find fixes for the three faults in the infotainment system. I wish the reviews, including the many on Youtube, would mention these issues but I suppose they are only given cars that do not exhibit the faults.
  8. I was just watching a video on a British Golf 8 GTI Clubsport and I notice that the values in its system info screen are identical to those in our Skoda VRSs as shown earlier in this thread. Here is a screen capture from the video. Note the device number, hardware and software versions are similar or identical to: 5H0 035816 D (vs 5E3 035816 B), H56 (vs H56), 1788 (vs 1788). So the values we see are not as specific to the car model as I had thought. I wonder if the VW users have similar issues to our Skodas. Does anyone know what the equivalent forum to BRISKODA for VW users is?
  9. And when you see all of the video reviews you would get the impression that the display customization would allow anything. But it is limited. If I could I would place the following buttons onto the shortcuts the you can drag down from the top of the touchscreen: Start/stop off Fake engine noise off Lane assistance off Warm my feet Fresh air (to my face) The first IS available as a shortcut but the rest require visiting various screens. And I could also wish that all of the above were available immediately on switching on the car, rather than up to 30 seconds later as the system boots up and the engine warms up. And of course I could also wish that the car remembered my choices and restored them automatically after a restart. But none of these are faults, just quirks of design.
  10. An example: using the swipe gesture to move from one screen to another on the touchscreen is a rather hit and miss affair. Sure I can do it 90% of the time if I think about what I am doing but when I am driving and I have to reach across and divert my attention from the road I get it wrong 50% of the time. And, conversely, sometimes it seems to activate when I am doing other things, such as with the left stalk on the steering column, and the screen changes when I do not want it to.
  11. Yes. I would say the important thing is to be centred, then to move the foot in and out at a moderate speed, then stand back and wait a second or two. When I said "you could easily have a more serious problem" problem what I meant was that although it worked for me (the screen touches and the boot opening) I did not want to deny the possibility that you had something else going on there that implied a real fault. I think you could mention these things to the dealer but most likely they are what I would call Skoda quirks rather than actual faults that the dealer ought to be able to do something about.
  12. I felt the same in the first few days but I got used to it. I can control the boot properly each time now. But, of course, you could easily have a more serious problem. Reading the other posts on this site shows that almost no area on this car is immune from the software gremlins.
  13. After having my car for 3 days last week and being unable to cure any of its problems, Skoda has requested to have the car from Monday to Friday next week to, hopefully, get to the bottom of this. They have offered a courtesy car, if I wait for three weeks, but I declined, since, as before, they provide me with lifts and I have my wife's car still while her broken arm heals. I am happy that at least they are taking my problems seriously. Surely now they can fix the issues. After all there seem to be many other Octivias where these functions work correctly. None of the other 15 cars my wife and I have had in my 53 years of driving had faults that could not be fixed. But I am not sure that is a good predictor of the future now that there is so much software involved.
  14. Well my first reaction was to use the volume knob on the steering wheel to turn up the volume. I ended up taking it as far as it would go and the display indicated 100%. Any such change should take it out of mute. I also tried using the slider underneath the infotainment screen.
  15. I have found with my other cars (Honda and VW) that the dealers at a service and also the tyre shops after a replacement use pressures 5 PSI or more above the manufacturer's recommendation. The first thing I do when I get home, and the tyres have cooled, is to reset all to manufacturer' specs.
  16. I was using YT Music. It works most of the time. This seems to be related to turning off the car and then returning some time later. But it it is not just the Android apps. Once in this mode it would not even play the car's DAB radio until the infotainment was rebooted. And when I said "the music did not resume" I should have said that the music DID resume (since the Play/Pause button turned into a Pause button) and when I adjusted the volume the display indicated that it was already at a medium level. The problem is that all sound just went away and nothing except a reboot could bring it back.
  17. Add another problem. It already occurred once 9 days ago but it recurred today. I am using Android Auto more since the built-in Skoda stuff has the problems already described. And I am listening to music a lot. So after I got back into the car after shopping the music did not resume. I tried Pause/Play and nothing. I tried increasing the volume and nothing. I tried switching back to the built-in radio and nothing. In the end I had to restart the infotainment but apparently you need to cut the engine to do that so it is not a solution you can invoke while driving.
  18. I agree that Google Maps is very good and better than the inbuilt satnav but its shortcomings include : a) only available if you have a data connection so not suitable for country driving (although using a downloaded map may work well enough) b) its speed limit signs are too small for me to read with my driving glasses on (or maybe that was Waze?) c) cannot show its maps in the virtual cockpit. Have you tried turning on the Skoda's Traffic Reports? I have had several so far in my 700kms of driving and they have turned out to be correct although sometimes unnecessary - like "Watch out for car stopped in left lane" but the car is actually parked on the shoulder, away from the traffic. I also liked its "Police spotted ahead", which also turned out to be accurate. I haven't yet had a problem with late lane guidance but I had hoped the satnav wold be the same as in the AllTrack, which I have found over 5 years and 75000 kms to be very good, including warning you early of the lane to be in.
  19. I looked elsewhere in the forum and found this: From that I gather that Skoda/VAG could not get TSR to work well enough in Australia back in 2017 so they have probably disabled it in subsequent models. Which is fine but it would be nice if the speed limit from the SatNav could be shown in the HUD instead.
  20. I tried that. The results are attached. Not that there is much I can do to interpret them. I noted there was also a possibility of a software upgrade. Not sure I should do that, if it would even work. Continued.
  21. I am using Alto at Pennant Hills. Nothing to really criticize them for at this stage. I think they are at the mercy of the Skoda organization.
  22. That has not been my experience yet. I have seen 5.8 out of the Alltrack, although it would usually be nearer to 7 using cruise control out on the open road. And around 10-11 in the city. But the RS has done 700km so far and averages around 11. The best it did was 6.9 using cruise control out on the open road - round trip Sydney-Wollombi-Cessnock-Sydney. And I would expect the RS to be worse than the Alltrack since it has a 2.0 litre motor vs 1.8; it has 180kw vs 132; it weighs more.
  23. Given my situation where I am retired, I have another car and I was offered a lift I did not expect a courtesy car. I will try that service menu thing today.
  24. I would like to believe that you are right but even if it is available in UK and Slovenia it might not be available immediately here in Australia.
  25. I wonder if I am being too tolerant but although it is disappointing not to have everything (or anything) fixed straight away it has only been two weeks. For comparison my son-in-law had to a) convince service people of a fault under warranty, and b) wait for a replacement, on: 1) A DELL All-in-one - taking 6 weeks 2) An ACER laptop - taking 3 weeks. And during these periods he was without use of a device and no loaner was offered to him. At least I get to use my car throughout - except for the last 3 days. And they did drive me home the first day and back to the dealer on the final day. And, as luck(!) would have it, my wife fractured her arm last weekend and cannot drive, so I have her nice reliable 2015 Golf Alltrack to drive. I should and maybe would have got one of those but they are not available new at present and I don't like buying second hand cars. And the RS offered so many advantages over the Alltrack including: Adaptive Chassis Control Adaptive Cruise Control Power tailgate DAB radio Traffic announcements Heads-up display Blind spot warnings 36% more powerful engine Decent space for phone with adjacent charging socket Folding mirrors More airbags Voice control 2 years more warranty Other stuff that I do not care so much for
