Is this navigation symbol normal?...
Good point about the built in satnav. I only picked the car up on Saturday and I've used Waze for every trip. From limited experience, what it seems to do on that display between the dials is to take whatever the next manoeuvre is that the satnav is saying, and mirror it directly in front of the driver. So, for example, if Waze is telling me I've got a left-hand turn coming up in 15 miles on the big infotainment screen, it will also have a left signal with 15 miles mirrored in front of me. That weird 180Β° roundabout symbol just appears whenever Waze is telling me there's any sort of roundabout coming up. Actually! The penny has just dropped! I've just realised that the symbol which Waze displays on the phone and main infotainment screen for a roundabout is a swirling circular pattern with a number inside the circle. The number represents which exit you need to take, off the roundabout. So, obviously, Waze is sending it's instruction to the car computer and the car is interpreting the swirl with a number in it as a full trip round the roundabout (or something) every time, regardless of the number in the middle. The solution to this would be to see if I can change an option in Waze to display roundabouts in a different manner. I'll have a look when I'm back in the car, tomorrow, but I think I'm on the right track that it's simply an interpretation error between the two different softwares. Thanks for the comments.

Is this navigation symbol normal?...
I've only had the car a couple of days, but I swear that this seems to be the standard symbol for when I'm approaching a roundabout. I'm using Waze for my maps, not the built in satnav. Other directions, such as left and right turns are well directed, but the roundabout symbol seems to be telling me to do a complete 180 even if the satnav is actually telling me to take the first, second, third turn, etc.

Mk4 Fabia Owners Register
Hello. I joined this club on Saturday when I took ownership of this Fabia, pictured. Just sat here, having a coffee, with my fingers crossed that it's actually gonna complete an OTA update on the infotainment screen. π

Hello from a frugal friend
Haha. I'm in the gym right now but I'll have a look for the umbrella when I go back to the car. I've seen a few YouTube reviews from when I was making my mind up and I'd forgotten about the umbrella! I made a really good choice, so you don't need to remind me, yeah. πππ

Ah, right. So if someone presses it acciddentally you get an immediate option to stop it with the button or by using the infotainment console, or finally using the phone app. I'm about to set up the MySkoda phone app properly right now, so that's handy to know. Thank you. It had about 7.5k on the clock when I collected it, though I added a couple of hundred more yesterday. π

Hello from a frugal friend
I've been all over the place today (yesterday, now!). I picked it up in Newbury and headed towards Bristol, before diverting over the Severn Bridge and up through central Wales, then Shrewsbury and back across to the East Midlands to home. It's really great and sheds the miles, no problem. I flipped it into sport mode for an hour whilst on the smaller A roads and B roads in Wales because I needed to floor it a couple of times to overtake a van, etc. I feel like I'm going to enable sport mode whenever I'm not using dual carriageway or motorways, as it enables more decisive driving and it doesn't seem to drink much more fuel unless you start driving hard. Loving the car for both refinement and luxury and also practicality of getting somewhere. One random question... what happens if I'm showing it to family/friend and they press the red SOS button? Does it ring emergency services? Will I get a bill?

Hello from a frugal friend
It's a kit with the gunge stuff. But, I will bear that in mind. Thank you. I'm really looking forward to doing a lot of miles, this weekend. π

Hello from a frugal friend
Thanks. Interesting about the secret button. I'm sure that knowledge will be handy around these parts. I actually made a decision yesterday and I'm going to pick up a 22 plate Fabia tomorrow. It's a metallic blue 110 SE L with DSG gearbox. I had a go in it yesterday and it's really nice. Feels quite luxury for a small car. ππ

Hello from a frugal friend
Thanks for those articles. I think the suspension will be perfect for me, as Iβm my forties and not looking to be going flat-out all the time. I actually went to a Skoda dealer in Nottingham a few months ago and asked about a test drive but the young sales lad seemed only interested in selling finance, rather than the car. I might go again, now that Iβm more serious about buying. How are you finding the upholstery in the Colour Edition?

Hello from a frugal friend
That's great advice. Thanks. I'm rather taken with the idea of the "programmable" layout on the dials. I might be swayed into a Colour Edition. It sounds like you've driven the odd sporty motor before, and you think that the 110 engine is peppy enough, which is also pleasing to hear. What's the ride like? I drive mostly built-up areas around Nottingham/Derbyshire and the potholes have been as annoying as most places recently. The council seems to be getting their act together in 2024 but I can see it being an ongoing thing. My Kia is actually quite a heavy little car because of the 1.1 diesel in it, and it can often shudder over potholes. This is one of the factors that is convincing me to get something more modern. No worries about the rambling. As you can see, I'm capable of it, too π

Hello from a frugal friend
Hi there! Not at all. I just had a look at your intro thread with the pics and the car looks extremely nice! Is the Colour Edition basically the same kit as the SE L? Or does the SE L have slightly more stuff? I will be looking for something very similar to yours, with a 110hp petrol but with a DSG box. I havenβt quite decided on multi-colour or trim level yet.

Yeah. I'm actually quite happy with the stereo in my Kia Rio. For a 12 year old bangernomics motor it sounds surprisingly good. I've got anecdotal evidence from another guy at work that the stereo in the Fabia sounds good. Not sure if I'll find it a bit quiet after what @Tintowellfan says. But I do need a new car. The Rio has been good, and it's super-frugal on diesel, but it's starting to have seen better days.

That is, quite frankly, urine-poor! It's reminiscent of a 2010 MP3 player or something, not a modern device that they pay so much attention to in cramming new features into, that they forget something as simple as folder navigation.

@offthewall I will definitely have a look at your posts. I also use a reasonably cheap Android phone for music and maps in my current car. I think that the SE Comfort trim with the 110 engine and DSG could be a firm favourite. I'm not sure I could go back to CD's in the car. I pay for an Apple Music subscription, as it works quite well on my OnePlus Android phone, and it suits me well.

Sorry that you seem to be having issues. My field of work is IT/programming/systems engineer, so I'm in with a good shout at trying to work out the entertainment system. Mind you, I'm not keen on the keyless entry and ignition system as I've heard that it's more vulnerable to car thieves than traditional key setups. Is that the case with Skoda? As for the gearshift indicator, that's annoying. I will have a look at your previous posts to get an idea of whether DSG is the best option. Thanks for the reply.

I will be looking for a Fabia 110 in the coming months. Which trim level did you go for? I'm thinking maybe not going all the way to SE L because I'm not personally fussed about SatNav, but I might change my mind.

Hello from a frugal friend
Hi. I'm gonna be in the market for something nicer than my 12 year old Kia in the coming months. I've done a little bit of research and a nearly new Fabia is a strong possibility. I look forward to participating in the forum, from time to time. π
