Yeti door mirrors. What's this little clip thingy .... ?
The issue I was having was fixed by my squidging sealant/adhesive in between the back of the glass and the pad that would originally had an effective self adhesive surface. By doing that it solved the wobbling issue when driving. The silver clip would seem to have come adrift and dropped to the bottom of the housing when I operated the motor adjustment knob and adjusted it up, down, left and right to the maximum travel ( something I don't usually do. If I hadn't done that I suspect the clip might not have come loose.

Did you ever get to find out out what it did though?

Yeti door mirrors. What's this little clip thingy .... ?
Thanks very much. I wonder how likely it is that an attempt was made to lever it out? Do they simply come loose overnight? This one seemed to. It was left out on the drive the night before. I'd never heard of the attempted theft of mirror glasses. Maybe we'll never know. Strangely I've just re- started using my DISKLOK if I leave it on the drive. Before that I was using my LONGARM steering wheel lock

Yeti door mirrors. What's this little clip thingy .... ?
I just had better look on t'internet and can see mention of the clip but haven't been able see what it actually does. Given that the mirrors both work and are in one piece I'm thinking it might be best to simply keep the clip in a plastic bag, somewhere safe, and carry on as we are. Has anyone ever levered one of these glasses out of their respective carriers - and got them back again?

Yeti door mirrors. What's this little clip thingy .... ?
Just a quick one ..... This morning, whilst driving, I spotted the drivers door mirror was vibrating and the image was a bit blurred. On feeling the glass it was obvious that the glass had partly come adrift from it's backing pad, or mount or whatever it's fixed on to. It was loose and at speed the wind was causing it to shake/vibrate. I've prised the glass away a bit ... enought to allow me to sguidge some clear silicone sealer/adhesive behind the glass, between it and the backing pad. That's fixed it - hopefully for good. But in adjusting the glass left and right and up and downh ( using the internal electric motor control knob ) it revealed an errant object within the housing. It's a stainless steel clip 32mm long x 18mm wide with aun upturned lip about 7mm high. See photos. Now that I've looked closely at the left hand door mirror it looks like the same clip is loose in there too. Although not as totally loose as the right hand one. I've never had to dismantle a door mirror. Anyone ever had to? It hasn't arisen .... but if you was unlucky enough to require a complete new mirror how do you go about getting it the same colour as the car? Thanks in advance.

1.2 TSI Yeti - recommended service intervals
Oh. I was assuming (wrongly) that you could use an indie. I shouldn't have. I'm sorry.

1.2 TSI Yeti - recommended service intervals
Got to be honest, this all sounds a bit complicated. My 1.2 DSG Yeti was bought new in 2011 and has done 45,00 miles. It, too, gets looked after and driven gently It was serviced at the main dealer during the warranty years but is now looked after by a very local and much trusted small independent. He changes the oil, air filter, spark plugs, pollen filter etc as and when. I don't tell him what to do, he does what's needed. He's fixed the driver's door wiring loom, a door handle mechanism, a water pump, an alarm unit and probably a few other little bits. I trust him implicitly and pay him when he's done the job. It all quite straightforward. I'd like to keep the car for as long as it remains reliable. Can't really see what all the above discussion is about.

That's encouraging. As mentioned before I wish they did the Corolla Cross here.

My 2011 Hyundai is the same.

Well I'm sorry to hear what you've said. Dare I ask if it has put you off the make or model and if so what you would get next time? Obviously they all look nice in the showroom, perhaps you could tell more by looking at five year old examples to get a better idea.

Yes, my Yeti is a 2011. Perhaps paint has moved on since then. I imagine you've approached the dealer and Skoda head office and not had much help?

I'm a bit surprised and disappointed to hear this, survey. Your post doesn't give any background. but yours is quite new and shouldn't have issues at that age, surely? Something must be wrong. I've only owned one Skoda - the Yeti - and have always regarded the paint as superb. Do you think yours is a one-off or is it your viewr that the overall quality for Karoqs , or for Skoda in genertal is problematic? I've heard more than one opinion that Tesla paint isn't good but not Skoda so I'd like to know what you have experienced.

Thanks for the above three helpful additions to my sum of knowledge. As mentioned, I've ruled the MINI suggestion. The Kia Niro hasn't been discounted completely The Karoq is looking more likely I did mention the Duster but no-one has had much to say about that (perhaps that should tell me something) And for similar money Dacia will be bringing their Bigster to showrooms quite soon. I did go and have a quick look at the Duster and thought it OK but for not a lot m,ore money (all modelsunder £30.000) the Bigster is going to give yo an 1800cc Hybrid Auitomatic 2 wheel drive with a huge boot and more room inside than any of the options discussed to date. But I imagine if push came to shove I might be faced with the option of an Automatic Karoq 1.5 with a £4k discount from someone like Drive the Deal - OR a Bigster at full retail but with both costing much the same. The Skoda has three years warranty and the Dacia also has three BUT if you service it at a main dealer you get an ongoing years warranty (for 7 years, I believe). Much like Toyota, who do the same but for ten years. Something to think about, even if the Dusters of old didn't appeal.

All noted with much interest. I should, really , have looked at one in the showroom ... I've driven through Marsh Barton a million times, I've no excuse. (The most frequent place we visit on Marsh Barton is Makro, in order to get their sides of salmon)

You said "fortunately". Presumably something expensive went wrong... ? Opposite the main dealer where any new Skoda would be srviced is a KIA dealer. I've had Hyundais but not a Kia. The seven year warranty is, on the face of it at least, a distinct plus. If I bought one today I'd be 81 when the warranty ran out. something to consider .....

No, I fear not. If they still made them then that would be very likely. But if I went for a Skoda it would be the Karoq. A 1.5 SE Edition with DSG in either silver or grey metallic and probably a spare wheel (either space saver or not, as the case may be) No sunroof No VarioFlex seats Looks like they do black wheels or silver with fancy ugly wheel trims, so it would be the black. Don't know about extended warranty. Apparently you can buy it at the time of purchase for £630 or wait until the three years is up - and the salesman said the latter option is still the same level manufacturers warranty and the cost depends on projected mileage. His opinion was that it was a waste of money. My opinion is that I would be afraid the DSG went wrong out of warranty.

I spotted this in an RAC review of the new Duster. The Duster’s driving position is more SUV-like than some of the car’s hatchback-on-stilts alternatives. Plenty of wheel and seat adjustment allows you to get comfortable easily, but the lack of adjustable lumbar support on any version is a shame.

Read that with interest, PP .... ta. Does sound like we've had different experiences there - unlike yourself I continue to be happy driving a 1.2 petrol in combination with a fairly early DSG Yes, agreed the Kamig didn't do it for me either. The Karoq seemed just that bit more spacious all round and I hoped the 1.5 would be just a bit more powerful than a 1.2 Yeti - but that's not a priority and I do find the Yeti has enough get up and go to suit my purposes.. And, as I get substantially older, I can manage without the character aspect now. Thanks for all that's been offered. Appreciate it.

I did go in to the Dacia dealer recently and there was a new Duster there. I had a decent look round. The sales staff were presumably all busy so I wasn't troubled by a young man with pointy shoes and all was fine . The only thing I wasn't keen on was the drivers seat didn't suit me as well as the Mini or the Karoq or the Puma but Id need to return to check that out. Not sure if lumbar support is available on some models. It did tick most boxes and felt nicely put together and it can have an extended warranty which I liked.

A very valid point, Colin. I haven't looked at one in the flesh or driven one coz I sort of feel it's a tiny bit above my modest station. 🙂 The fact is I could have one without going without food or needing to send the Mrs out on the street but they seem a bit too pricey for me to be able to realistically justify. I love the looks and the safety aspect and the high seating and would imagine they're quick, comfortable and lovely to drive. But I've told myself I won't go over the £40,000 limit and it seemed most were. I didn't look all that closely but a quick glance didn't show me any brokers offering a discount. I guess there must be some though.
