    So just an update that the noise is initially solved, hopefully some more motorway cruising will confirm this.
     
    As mentioned wheel bearings were the culprit up front, not one side, but both have been changed.  I'm surprised based on the mileage, and the amount of racket they made which had me worrying about the gearbox  / transfer box.
     
    On a final note: After a not very impressive dealing / diagnosis from a Skoda dealer, they came good and also re-balanced my front wheels as a bonus.  Thankfully an approved used warranty covered all the above, as I wouldn't have liked the bill of £363 all in!
