Update: problem solved: Intermittent battery drain caused by heated seat controller

I emailed Matt at Volkscraft and he replied promptly to say would be happy to look into it and he hoped it would take approc 2hrs investigation time. He found that the battery drain was intermittent and after a couple of hours he had narrowed it down to something inside the cabin, the rpoblem was that it was random, one overnight monitoring should no drain at all. Matt asked if we would authorise him to spend another hour investigating. This paid off as he found it was a fault on the passenger heated seat, he removed the controller which is located under the passenger seat and the drain stopped, the only remaining concern he had was if the problem was linked to the heated seat controls on the dash.

We've now had the car back for over 2 weeks and made a point of not using it for several days and after 6 days with just turning the engine over we've had no more problems. Brilliant.

So a huge thanks to neomancer for recommending Matt, I'm not sure anyone else would have spent so much time (and I suspect he spent a lot more time than the 3 hours he charged us for) tracking down the fault. A new controller is about £40 so not too painful! Given the current heatwave we'll wait to replace  the controller  next time we take it in (to Matt).
