Rear Tyre Wear !!!!!

I have just had a rear slow puncture fixed by a friend who runs a central tyre company depot , he pointed out the the outside edges are wearing far more than inside and suggested that the tracking may be out, does any one have any suggestions or experience of the same thing, I do add I have done more miles in ten weeks than some people do in a year 12000 so it is accelerated but shows up well.

maybe the tyre was soft for quite a while causing the wear maybe? i thought rear tyres were trailing and therefore they remain even, unlike the front tyre that handles cornering .

Talking about a new car,I can only think at underinflation,but maybe I'm wrong :confused:

Had this problem on rear of an Octavia 1 4x4, with being 4wd it could be adjusted. Not sure though there is much adjustment that can be done on a standard rear axle setup.

My thoughts would be along the lines depending on the age and mileage of your car to check springs, shocks, bushes etc.

Also make and age of the tyre could be a factor as can heavy braking, which can cause the tyre to 'slip' on the rim and distort the profile.

It has fully adjustable rear suspension geometry so i'd get it checked.

My MK1 is heavy on tyres, I can just about pull 10k out of the fronts and the last set of rears wore down quite quick and then seemed to stabalise for a while, I think I did about 20k on them in the end, heavy long car and weight transfer is what I think causes it, I had the same brand tyres on my Vectra *Bridgestone Turanzas* and the fronts did 26k and the rears were only half worn at 41k when the car was written off.

For the OP, wear on both edges of a single tyre makes me think underinflation. If you meant both outside edges on the rears were wearing heavily, full alignment check, and I suspect too much rear toe-in.

Supurbia, a long car gets less weight transfer and pitch under acceleration than a short one with the same weight, spring and damper rates and percentage distribution will. Are you sure you don't drive the Superb more "enthusiastically" than the V*ctr@? I know I am noticably more rapid in an Octy than in a more powerful V*ctr@ on the same roads, due to the extra confidence I have in my ability to place the car.

Superb II suspension is completely different plus the fact it is transversed engined means tyre wear and weight transfer etc is going to be differerent.

I dunno guys, I just know mines heavy on tyres and I've had a 4 wheel alignment done and it still the same, I know the angles are fine because she will keep a straight line on the motorway, it's a pain, but as the car is so good in other areas I tend not to let it be an issue.
