Suspension

I wonder if anyone could tell me what the difference is between standard octavia mk1 REAR springs, and mk1 vRS rear springs. Is it just firmness? Or is there a slight ride height adjustment also?

Thanks

Different rate and free length.

Any idea how much it effects the car once its sat on them? i.e changing my 1.9tdi L&K from standard to vrs rear springs (i have front coilovers) will do what? make it lower? or just firmer?

If it lowers it, any idea how much buy? I suppose I should try and match it by winding the front either up or down.

20mm ish i think mate, the dampers will pos be wrong to. and unless you know what your doin I would say that the car will handle and feel like crap as nothin will be matched up.

the std vRS rear is a nice hight but the fronts are a tad high. how come you only got front coilovers on? didnt it come as a set with shorter rear springs and an adjuster plate?

all the best mate

It will lower the car around 20mm as Claytarget stated. And if you are not changing the shocks to VRS ones the VRS springs will probably be too harsh for the standard shocks you have. As you have coilovers up front not sure what your overall handling will be like as no idea if they will be evenly matched. If you can get the VRS Springs cheap then you are not wasting lots of cash if the set up is poor I guess.

Hmm, thanks for the replies, I hadn't thought about it that much. It is a spax set, but for some reason they don't have rear springs, but DOES have rear shocks. Can't complain as i'm being given them I suppose. Would you guys suggest buying some spax rear springs to fit in then instead of the VRS ones? The VRS ones are £30 for the rear pair. Is that reasonable? They will be fitted over spax shocks, thus hopefully eliminating the risk of them being too harsh.

mmm that could work.

for the price mate you cant go wrong. is that for new ones? £30 sounds cheap to me but I have never had to buy any.

if it works mate get it out there.

but the rear springs dont sit over the shock they sit on the rear beam on there own:confused::confused:

should be a prob you can buy an adjuster seat so atleast you have the option to match the front  and then spring wise it doesnt matter to much ;)

The rear isn't coilover no. Just seperate spring and shock. But all I have are the two shocks. No springs. The adjuster seat is a good idea, but wouldn't it just push the spring up further in turn raising the car? Or does it somehow compress the spring? If so where would I source a pair from?

£30 is from a breaker :s Haven't bought them yet, it's subject to seeing them of course.

I would get brand new springs mate unless the ones you are after are fairly new ne way, and dont bother gettin the adjusters as it will put an extra " ish on the hight. the vRS rear is a nice hight anyway. then you just need to match up the front to suite then get the headlights sorted.

unless you want the rear to be higher than the vRS then dont bother wi the adj on there. just keep your eyes open for some rear lowering springs then you can get the adj and make it what hight you want.

I'll see how much new rear springs are then. The L&K has xenons so i think they should automatically adjust to the change right?

No the rear of the vRS is a nice hieght so I'm not looking for it to be any higher. So I shall not bother with the adjusters as you say.

Thanks for your help guys.
