vRS- Mobile device interface

Featured Replies

Recently purchased a lovely vRS which I am very pleased with - however can't really find out much about the Mobile Device Interface apart from the odd snippets I get from the net - the dealers regrettably don't really know how it works especially its functionality with the Bolero radio. According to some on line the MDI option does not allow you to work your Ipod through the radio - others say you have full click wheel functionaility through the radio. I missed out having the MDI fitted at factory because of the lack of information and apparently you can't get it fitted in the UK as a dealer fitted accessory. I also would like to run my Blackberry hands free and looking at the Bolero hanbook there apears to be a lot of in car phone technology/functionality in this car but again the dealer can't help! CAn any of you Skoda afficianados help please!

Has anyone got a factory fitted MDI and if so what in God's name does it do - nobody in Skoda UK seems to know!!

im having the exact same problem and would love to know in the next few hours so i can can phone skoda and get them to add it to mine, ive got an iphone

I have the mdi and have an iPod permanently connected to it. Works great, keeps iPod charged and gives full fuctionality through the bolero touch screen. Couldn't live without it now.

I'm not sure how anybody can use the click wheel on an iPod in the glove box while they are driving.

When you connect an iPod you get a list of songs on the screen of the Bolero that you can scroll through and select. You do get playlists, lists by artist, podcasts etc presented on the Bolero screen. The interface is entirely lists that you scroll up or down and changing from say a playlist to a list by artists is way slower than doing it on the iPod.

Overall you can do everything on the Bolero that you can do an an iPod except video and album art but you do it in a different way and much slower.

When you consider the cost of the MDI plus the additional cost of the iPod cable (or USB cable or AV cable) using an SD card in the slot on the Bolero gives you more or less the same functionality at less cost.

As far as Bluetooth is concerned imo the Bolero is brilliant. I have a Fiscon plus kit and use the Bluetooth connection to the phone multiple times per day and it works fantastic in terms of ease of use and clarity of speech.
