Whats the real cost of this, and whats a full breakdown of it?

Is it, you need a laptop, cable and the software and then you are good to go?

And how in depth does it go? would I be able to monitor the state of a dpf while going down the road like a VW mechanic is able to, or is there a better all in one hand held unit?

Thx in advance.

A cheap laptop or netbook is needed.

VCDS Hex-USB+CAN interface around £260 this will work on all cars, the cheaper ones will either not work on the MKI Superb or the MKII Superb etc

Software is downloaded direct from Ross-Tech

Im not sure if you can log DPF details (as i have not done it) but there are numerous logs that can be done whilst the car is being driven, this is one item which i would of thought would be able to be logged.

VCDS is about as good as it gets

Thx Giz, I'm actually looking to use it for a Passat 140 DSG that has a DPF fitted to it, as I do lots of short runs I don't want to risk back popping the engine if it blocks up too quickly.

In that case it will be between the HEX-USB+CAN and the Micro-CAN.

The Micro-CAN is around £50 cheaper, BUT cannot be used on earlier non CAN based cars (like your current Superb)

Cheers, I'm about to jump ship, I really fancy a Passat Sport, nearly bought one a year ago, but it's getting time to change for economic reasons and age of the car, not that I wanna let the Sup go tbh, but it's done it's tax relief and also is entering the gamble time that nothing major will go wrong, plus I've been offered good px money for her as well, and sadly the Sup2 is way too dear at this time even S/H, I bet that's ruffling feathers at head office, 09 Passat Highline DSG 10k miles £14995.........09 Superb DSG SE 10k miles £17995, who'd ever think the son would outprice the daddy between these two.
