Door carrier repair

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have the same problem as many others with the rear driver foot-well on my 56 plate FABIA saturated with water.

I have spent time reviewing this site and have looked at a couple of very helpful guides as to how to remove door trim and re-seal.

However, I have one question that I can't seem to answer & hope someone who has done the repair can advise.

With door trim removed, I can see the "old" (rubber/foam-type? sealer) visible. If I leave it as is, I cannot see how it would be possible to achieve a good watertight seal by simply applying new sealer over the top.

Therefore, should I cut back (and dig out from the join between the two metal surfaces) as much of this old sealer as possible before applying the new sealer?

Many thanks.

As your car is a 56 plate the carrier will be riveted on, So it's going to be more trouble than it's worth.

Just do the standard Skoda approved repair, Just use a really good sealantemoticon-0148-yes.gif
