hi all,had my yeti a couple of weeks now[will put up pictures when i get round to working out how to] only done 435 miles at the moment but have noticed that when i turn a corner and go down a hill there seems to be something holding me back, feels like i am on a bunjie cord!!only lasts about a second or three!any idea what it could be??.starting to think its something to do with the 4x4 system??looking forward to your answers, also how many miles do you think it takes to run it in?

thanks guys

Strange! I've not noticed that on mine. You don't have the "Off Road" button on do you? You do have "hill descent" control but that only kicks in with the Off Road button on and placing it in free rolling neutral. Maybe it's this that has gone a bit wonky. Other than that, I really don't know.

Regards running in, take it easy for the first 1000 miles. I've done about 1500 in mine and I can sense the engine loosening up a bit. I'm beginning to take the revs a bit higher now at times (between 3K -4K rpm) before changing gear.

I've noticed something similar. When going downhill on a trailing throttle in 3rd or 4th gear at slow speed there is a slight delay in pick up again when you try to accelerate. You feel the car slow down slightly before picking up again. I believe the fuel supply is cut off on the overun for maximum economy and the delay is the supply being restored. Previously engines were fuelled at a tickover level on the overun to smooth the pickup when acceleration was required but this fuel was just wasted. I think engines are now just air pumps when going downhill with no throttle. Maybe they will bring out a ECU firmware update if owners feel this is a problem.

According to the brochure :

DOWNHILL ASSIST

Maintains a stable speed during descent down slippery, wet or snowy road surfaces.

Engine is running, but is engaged in neutral, first, second, third or reverse gear.

(my enbolding)

what did you drive before ie have you moved from a petrol engine car to a diesel? It might be you lifting off the accelerator and just experiencing more engine braking than you are used to.

I have experienced the same problem when turning a corner at slow speed. (exiting from a side road for example) I think it is to do with the Haldex clutch.

Throttle pickup is a different matter. First, the diesel engine will give you a much greater braking effect than a petrol engine and, second, the "fly by wire" on the accelerator does give a lag until the pedal is positioned to provide engine power rather than braking. It is very noticable when the Cruise Control is engaged and you want to accelerate above cruise speed, the accelerator pedal has to be pushed in quite a distance before it engages and increases the engine revs.

The Maxidot shows 200 mpg when the engine is "shut down" so all the fuel is cut off when going downhill. (shame about the uphill bits!!)
