Engine upgrading or remapping

Featured Replies

Hi All

i have a 140cr elegance combi on order

my question is does anybody have any experiance of power upgrading, i have been looking on the net and they seem to range from 25 to 38 hp upgrades from about £200.00

now i know some will say "why didnt you order the 170 in the first place " well the answer is the 140 has a co2 of 20% and the 170 is 23% which basically when you take into account the company fuel allowance i get then that equates to about £50.00 extra tax to the goverment !

I know there are insurace and warrenty issues but what would not be covered by a chip upgrade ?

also ive heard there is no mechanical diffrence between the 140 and the 170 so why can you chip a 140 to 178 and a 170 to 200+ can i not chip a 140 to 200+ ?

any help and advice would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

Andy

As far as i'm aware of, the 170 is not just a ECU upgrade. There is a different turbo on the 170 HP. Thats why you can remap a 170 to 190hp/430NM.

That said, your 140 should be able to do 170bhp with 360NM.

Should have gone for the 170. By the time you have disclosed the "performance" upgrade to your insures you may find the standard engine is the best way to go.

it would be wise also to try the 140's performance before you plan upgrading.

Shark perfomance are the people you should talk to .Contact Ben h will fill you in on the upgrades and prices.I have the 170 vrs which he has upgraded and the difference is amazing.

Certainly something different as there is a 8 Kg wieght difference between the CR140 and CR170.

Could be a bit difficult as the CR140 is relatively new and from what I have seen most dealers only run Superb CR170 demonstrators. Consequently ordering a CR140 is a bit of a leap of faith at the momment and if the OP feels he needs the power of a CR170 then ordering one rather than performing an after-maket remap would seem to be a better option. Also aren't there currently problems with remapping recent ECUs?

Best regards

David
