Anyone fitted auto headlights?

Featured Replies

Was wondering if anyone had installed an auto headlights kit? I know they're kind of pointless in that it's easy enough to switch them on and off, but a kit like this would be a good way of adding coming home/leaving home lights that come on only in the dark with a few small modifications.

There doesn't seem to be many different kits around, here's some I've found:

Valeo lights on and off http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=257320&C=SO&U=strat15 £35.

A relay and diodes on the switched ignition input could be used in conjunction with an alarm auxiliary output to make the lights turn on a short time on locking and unlocking to give coming/leaving home lights.

Some cheapie All Ride ones on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12V-CAR-AUTOMATIC-HEADLIGHT-SENSOR-KIT-SET-/180553035655?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a09ccaf87 £15 which appears to have the same light sensor/switch as above. Not been able to find much info on this kit but it says sensitivity is adjustable which would be a great feature.

DEI 545t http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DEI-545T-Nite-Lite-Nite-Lite-System-NEW-/330481021203?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf2343113 £30.

Provides connections to make lights come on with locking and unlocking. Some peculiarities of this system are that when activated by lock/unlock the side lights flash (to let you know the system is powering the lights and you haven't left them on, this probably makes it illegal in the UK), and the DRL feature activates the dipped beam all the time unless the feature is deactivated. The other downside is the separate pair of relays.
