fun bumper woes

Featured Replies

does anybody know if i can fit vw caddy or skoda pick up bumpers in place of my rather forlorn fun originals. I'd rather have the originals but theyr'e altogether wrecked.

Any ideas anybody??

There is a standard bumper under the Fun fibreglass covers, so yeah they will fit but wont line up with the arches.

Not so sure it would go over the extra bit in the middle either. (Where the tow-point and Fun bumper mounts are) That looks like an extra bit welded in place. Obviously you could remove it, but then no chance of putting a Fun bumper back on. It looked to me like the original Felly bumper had been cut to fit the fun - noticably thinner between the headlights where the number plate should go.

Whilst we're on this picture, in the lower-left as you look at it, there's a punch-out in the bumper. Given that it's nowhere near the tow-points, does anyone know what it's for?

Yes, compared to a standard bumper it's had most of the middle chopped out - everything between the foglights and most of the number plate holder. However I suspect that's more to do with allowing the fibreglass bit to fit and improving airflow to the bottom of the radiator. The extra mounting bracket in the middle might actually fit behind the standard number plate holder, but if not I don't think you'd have to modify a standard bumper too much to fit over it, and any bits you cut out should be hidden once the plate's fitted anyway.

My original bumper was wrecked, split all along the bottom and filled with newspaper and fibreglass. However a few fibreglass kits, some filler and a lot of time and care it was repaired and looked awesome when done.

Very very nice job :)

What did you do about the tow-point that was in the original? What didi you do with the bar that was inside the bumper? Have you ditched the fog-lights?

Looking at the photos, there seem to be more. Have you got a link to the diary?

Cheers

I built the Fun about five years ago, was then sold on to another briskoda member.

I ditched the foglights, the towing eye was ditched and a hoop welded on under the front just in case.

The nudge bar was cut off out of the bumper and fibreglassed over but under the bumper remained unchanged.
