Auto box hesitating into 5th gear

Featured Replies

Hi there

noticed this yesterday night, and thought I was imagining things, but happened today too even though I put the car into tiptronic mode. With car cold, half a mile after starting off, and onto the dual carriageway, 1st 2nd 3rd 4th gear, then requested 5th but it stayed in 4th until 70mph (normally goes into 5th at 45-50). Not sure if there is a gearbox warm up program in the machine or whether the thick hydraulic fluid means that it just could not shift. But -2 isn't actually THAT cold, when you cnsider we hve colleagues who drive their cars at -30.

Has anyone experienced this?

My Tip V6 behaved yesterday driving to Birmingham and back (-3 when I left) , when was you box fluid last changed ?

Last year when I left one day at -15 it was fine too.

If your fluid has been changed was the VAG spec fluid used ?

Auto box fluid and filter changed at a SKoda main dealer 10k miles ago. Now on 86k.

This morning it was fine from home, first opportunity to go 50mph is one mile from home, and it was -3.

Both instances of no 5th gear for a while were on the way home where the 60mph zone starts less than 1/2 mile from work, and it is uphill too, so could understand if in auto mode it did not upshift till later but in tiptronic mode it should do as I say. my way or the highway lol. Dunno. Strange.
