Fabia uprated diff ace in snow!

Featured Replies

Fought my car out the snow packed drive this morning! Wasn't too much of a struggle as with the diff I have, you only lose grip when both wheels lose traction. So with a bit of rocking and low revs clutch I was able to get out my packed snow/ice drive without too much of a drama. Drive to work was OK but I took a long detour to avoid a fairly sharp hill down to a roundabout as I knew I would just slide there.....

Parked on pack ice/snow on the seafront fine too! :D Journey home tonight could be fun though as I have to use "that hill" but at least going up should be easier than down....

PS: I am still on crappy old toyo rubber, so just shows how much work the diff is doing! Roll on the thaw!

Well, mongrel got off its ice parking space just now (let out of work early! yay!) absolutely fine and "that hill" turned out to be easily passable. However, I have left the car on the road outside my house rather than try and get it back on the drive so its easier to move it in the morning! Got a new sense of confidence in the snow now, but obviously not a false sense of security either. :giggle:

Yep, don't go mad J - but good to know it's working well for you

 thats the challenge trying to get it in and out if you know what i mean :wonder:

I would sooner avoid a challenge that CAN be avoided! The potential for trouble now is the car is parked where cars will turn into my road from the main road, so there is potential for someone to take the junction too quickly for the conditions and slide into the mongrel. I am hoping everyone around here is driving sensibly in these conditions - yet to witness any muppetry on the road in the last 3 days.

I've actually not had any issue with fairly worn Toyo this year, but how much was the diff + fitting?

Diff I got ages ago from USA for about £600, it was $2:£1 back then though.....

Fitting was around 4 hours work I think.

Bugger - and Bugger :)

I was toying with the idea recently. Perhaps in the distant future if the car is still going strong!

(In other news, zero issues with the bonnet lifter now! It should be fitted as standard.)

I managed to get to work on these yesterday, Worn(out) Toyo R1R's on the front and nankang ditchfinders on the rear.

Needless to say, i'll never be letting them get this low again, don't condone/recommend it and have shiny new rubber on the car now :)

You might find less traction with the new rubber. ;)
