Headlight Washers

Featured Replies

Hi all,

In the recent bad weather noticed my headlight washers had frozen and not working, in fact one of the covers was slightly open at one stage. Fair enough I thought, when it thaws should be OK, but trying them today found they are not working at all. Does anyone else have this problem ? Is there an easy Fix ? or am I off to the Skoda dealers ?

Any help appreciated.....................Happy New Year to all

Add a bottle of methylated spirits to the tank and wait for a good thaw. Either the nozzles are still frozen or the pump is.

I've not had any problems even down to -15 and I guess that Agerbunsen sees temperatures even lower.

See the thread on screenwash.

We expect night temperature as low as -20°C, so I blend the fluid to handle -25 at the moment.

I guess the whole screenwash discussion originates only in the UK, and one might surmise that the discount screenwash fluid sold in the UK does not anticipate very low temperatures, so have very little alcohol in it. Since the rest is primarily water, this lowers the cost.

I think this is the basis of a number of our problems in parts of the UK. We have not been accustomed to harsh winters although I recall them as a child almost 50 years ago. As a result, while we expect cold temperatures, wind and rain, we aren't really geared up for the extremes we've had last winter and now this winter.

I think it is probably fair to say that for many drivers, if they use a screenwash additive at all, it either isn't a winter product or if it is, it's not mixed to a winter strength.

ps this isn't aimed at Briskodians!
