It said I should introduce myself so I am.

I found this site while researching Octavia vRSs. I currently drive a Vauxhall Monaro but am looking at replacing it with something quick but much better on fuel! Currently considering a new Octavia vRS petrol DSG as the VAT off deal makes them a bargain.

I'm a little worried about the reliability of DSG 'box and the ESP problems but otherwise I think I'm pretty much settled on the car.

Edit: Dealer is telling me 12 weeks lead time, which based on things I've read sounds good. Is he shining me on?

Welcome

Your dealer is being realistic with delivery estimates, a bit of a nose around, & you will see that Diesel orders are a minimum of 6 months .

If you search the site, you will probably find that the ESP issues were mainly on the pre FL cars ( search will verifiy)

Interested to know why the Skoda, & not the VW / Audi / BMW alternative, specially moving from your current car. emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Well I fancy something more practical (the 'ro is big but the boot doesn't accomodate a mountain bike very well and the seats don't fold), more economical and newer. The Golf GTI is too expensive, the fuel consumption of the Focus ST or RS isn't good enough to warrant the change and it's the same story with the Subaru Legacy 3.0R.

I think for the amount of car and spec you get the vRS is hard to beat for the cash. A similarly fast BMW would cost 50% more.

I'm not 100% decided on the DSG thing but I'm hoping to get a test drive of one soon so I can make my mind up.

No idea what colour to go for though. I'm thinking Anthracite with orange wheels but I like the blue too.

re saving money on fuel

i would imagine your monaro is very thirsty.

but be aware.

i am only getting 30 mpg from my new petrol vrs dsg.

i am not hanging about but i expected something around the 38 mpg mark

great car though, dont let me put you off.

That's good enough for me, considering how much less you can get a petrol for at the moment.

Good Old Skoda Value for money again, you're the new customer thats driving VAG board demented that VW are loosing sales to Skoda, emoticon-0144-nod.gif.

I drove a DSG vRS Diesel, & the Fabia vRS, it is a tremendous piece of engineering, you only just feel the change from 1st to 2nd, then the next thing you know is your in 6th without realising you're there.

You can always be cheeky & see if your local VW dealer has a GTI with DSG, if you cant find a Skoda Dealer as they are basically the same car emoticon-0105-wink.gif.

Happy hunting, & hopefully the Octy will be what youre looking for.
