Rapid 130 timing chain kit, info wanted

Featured Replies

I am looking for some information about fitting a new timing chain kit, My main querie is, does the sump have to come off or can it be done by just the removal of the timing cover. Are there any problems I may come acccross. Alaso on a different subject, where could I buy a good carburator, I have just refitted the cylinder head after having it skimmed, the car will not run without the choke being on and will not run at below 2500RPM. Some previous owner has pluged the hole for the air correction adjustment screw with a peice of wood. Any information will be greatly apperciated.

Yes you need to remove the sump because the oil pump and various bolts run through it. Buy a Haynes manual from Ebay its quite accurate for jobs like this and you can get one from Ebay for about £1. On the carb front.....a simple head skim shouldnt wreck your set up and the Jikov generally works well if serviced. I would suggest getting a service kit from Jorily and taking it to bits, cleaning it and replacing the gaskets.....and the bit of wood! Again - a Haynes manual will help here as there are full diagrams of the main Jikovs. As for getting a new carb, I dont think you can even get the Weber replacement new anymore but you do see things on Ebay....but thats a gamble in itself!

Thanks for that, I was hoping it would not be too big a job to do the timing chain, I do have a haynes manual (got it from amazon ) but I may not have read it properly, I thought it showed this job as part of a full strip down, not as a stand alone job. I have seen a carburator kit advertised by Jorily but it was for a 120, is there any difference between that and the 130. It definately sounds the best option. Its starting to look as if I need an open cheque book for this car, I hope its worth it in the end.

Yep the sump overlaps the timing cover base so needs to come off first. Good oppourtunity to clean the sum out too.

A relatively simple job, even more so if you whip off the rear panel.

The rough running sounds like an airleak either at the cylinder head / manifold or manifold / carb.

Did you use new manifold gaskets or reuse the old? Try removing and smearing with silicone bfore refitting/

Jorily sells timing chain kits with gaskets and everything for not too much money.

The standard Jikov carbs differ between the 120 and 130 models with the 130 have larger venturis. the Weber replacement is identical except the 130 version has a slightly larger main jet in the 2nd choke.

Thanks for the info. I did use all new gaskets as i bought a full head set, I will have to go over the nut sand double check the tightness. it may be worth while taking the carb back off and checking the base flange to ensure it is completely flat, should I hear a hissing noise if it is drawing air.

You probably wont hear it above the normal engine noises....but technically yes
