Solid Mass Flywheel fitted on 1.6TDi CR

Featured Replies

Last week I had the flywheel changed from DMF-SMF after 60,000 miles as it was rattling. Since this The engine sounds like a bag of spanners with the engine hunting and sounding loud compared to before the conversion. I,ve noted that if i turn things on like the air con and rear window demister that the engine ticks over much better.

Is this normal after the SMF conversion? Is there anything that can be done to make the engine tick over better?

While driving it is ok, just as i expected.

dunno if you can raise the idle like on the older diesels, thats normal for single mass, and turning the aircon on raises the idle slightly thats why it gets better

there was a way on the older PD to raise idling via software on Vagcom.....

Who did the job, and have they fitted the right clutch as I am sure there is not one for the 1.6 CR.

Is everything tightened up or could they have missed something

When you change it in the 1.9 everything goes quieter

SMF Chatter is normal because the SMF hasnt got springs to dampen the vibrations etc so its loud

Some people have been saying SMF's fitted to 1.9's recently have gone quiter, Im guessing this is because they have fitted Valeo SMF Kits which have a specially designed Clutch to dampen the Vibrations

If you but a "normal" SMF kit off the likes of Sachs/Helix then it will chatter
