Hello and first question from first-time Skoda (Yeti) owner

Featured Replies

I found this Forum via Google when researching the Yeti spare wheel (to have or not) question. Have had our new Yeti for a couple of weeks and loving it. Replacing an '02 VW Golf petrol 1.6 auto we had from new with Yeti 140 TDI DSG 4X4 seems a huge step up. We ordered in December and dealer warned us it might not arrive until August so we were pleasantly surprised to get it in May.

Whenever I've taken delivery of a new car I've expected to find faults and niggles. So far, the Yeti doesn't seem to have any, except for one thing I'd like others' comments on. There are a few creaks and buzzy little rattles in the bodywork on rough UK tarmac roads. There are no such noises when driving on smooth surfaces, which in the UK these days are largely confined to recently surfaced motorways. I'm not sure if these are to be expected, and whether it's reasonable to expect dealers to be able to silence them? What have other people found with their shiny new Skodas?

Thanks

David

Hi David,

Welcome to the forum. Glad you are enjoying your Yeti.

With regards to creaks and rattle. They come from a variety of places and are relatively easy to fix.

I would imagine the creaks to be coming from the door (like little clicks?). This could be sorted out with lubricant on the door rubbers (search for "Gummi Pfledge" on the forum).

The second creaking may come from the rings around the speedo, the dealer should be able to remove this and refit it more securely.

I am not sure if you have the same problem as mine, but I am the only one I know of so far. Basically, the sides of the centre console is held together by fastening tape to a T-shape plastic attached to the transmission tunnel (underneath the gearbox surround and cubby box). These can be easily removed and search for Great Yeti's page for instructions. You would have to push securely the fastening tape together to stop any squeaking, and all that should take 10 minutes or so to do.

Best,

Hi and welcome aboard.

Many thanks for helpful suggestions. I'd never head of Gummi Pfledge but following your lead and other posts here I've ordered it via eBay. I'll listen out for the centre console area as a source of noise. Not sure if my DIY skills are up to any messing about with it but could certainly ask the dealer to investigate.

Best wishes

David

You're welcome, there is a dedicated forum to Yeti owners further down the home page.
