Re-mapping 1.9tdi

Featured Replies

Can anyone offer information and/or guidance on re-mapping/chipping a 1.9Tdi. From what I have gathered from around the bazzars, it's not a massive job, and the gains can be as much as 20+ Bhp. It's not so much the Bhp that i'm after it's the improved all round performance including an increase in engine efficiency and hence greater mpg. Any thoughts or experience greatly appreciated.

As a quick note, this has to be one of the most useful forums around as the amount of information contained herein is staggering. So far, information regarding the upgrading of lamps to LED's in CANBUS vehicles has been spot on and successful upgrading continues, to mention just one item. Cheers.

Hi, I have just had mine done. Figures quoted are roughly 25-30bhp extra. No mpg difference for me, see my signature. Last figure was due to my wife driving and doing a 500 mile round trip on the motorway so mpg was down. I think I got the remap in July.

The car pulls much better and I do put my foot down now and again so the mpg might be better but I compensate with the odd boot, who knows. My wife winged a bit but does admit it ads alot more especially when you think it had 105bhp to start with and mines an estate

Cheers for that. The extra response would be useful. The weight of my feet will proabably offset any advantage in fuel econ. I think that it's something that I'm going to do, will, however keep it quiet from her in doors until she says somethings changed, if she even notices. I'm the same as you, estate, mainly for the dogs, after all they choose the car!! Did you remap the ECU or use a programmed inline chip. I would have to travel to do the software upgrade, but can have the chip delivered and fit myself.

It will be an ECU remap. You can get approx 145bhp out of this engine before any mods need doing and stress on the clutch.

Good luck

Stormchaser, many thanks. I take it that pretty much all companies are similar to each other. Are there any preferential or recommended companies.

Canders, I used Shark as they are a sponsor on Briskoda. They also had a GB going at the time so it saved me a couple of quid

I opted for their STS kit so that I didn't need to travel to Northampton and also means I can return my car to standard any time I like

I'd expect around 140 out of the remap from the PD105, and economy on a run should be up slightly. But obviously dependant on how often you're using the extra performance that's been liberated, you could well find your overall economy down - most likely for the first couple of tanks while you play about and get used to the extra power

Gents,

Many thanks for all advice. I will be giving Ben a call to sort out a couple of things and hopefully getting things underway this weekend.
