New member DSG issue

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm joining this forum from Australia, where Skoda is relatively new to the market, having been introduced in 2009.

The brand is gaining popularity down under, but unfortunately I have just suffered a DSG gearbox breakdown. The whole box has frozen and the car won't go at all.

I have posted that technical problem on the appropriate Octavia DSG thread here:

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/218511-18-tsi-dsg-gearbox/page__gopid__2605589#entry2605589

However the DSG box is common across several VW engineered models, and I was wondering whether any forum member can advise whether the DSG gearbox (7 speed) has a history of malfunction, whether in an Octavia or any other model? Any comments are welcome, and I will be posting updates of my experiences in resolving this problem.

Cheers

Welcome to Briskoda, sorry to hear about your woes, cant honestly say i have heard anything bad about the DSG gearbox, the "shuddering" you mentioned in your other post should really have been reported immediately. The DSG gearbox is famous for its smoothness, sounds like the clutch/flywheel assembly has jammed solid locking up both the engine and gearbox. Just tell the dealer to get it sorted NOW, its under warranty and it wont cost them anything as Skoda are responsible.

Welcome!

There was a recall in America. Check out www.vwvortex.com for more details, it's all over there!

Thanks for the welcome - my DSG issue has now been resolved by replacing the mechatronics unit, all done under warranty - see Octavia thread.

Great to get advice from other members, thank you.
