Black Wow

Featured Replies

The bumber trim and hard plastic surfaces on my Mk1 Octy were all looking rather grey and have been for some time. I have tried a few products including CarPlan Back to Black spray which worked nicely but didn't last. Also tried Chemical Guys Trim Gel which lasted better but also faded after a week or so. (I now use this for the tyres)

Found some stuff called Back Wow on UK Car Care web site and decided to fork out the 20 quid. I am not disapointed! Did the bumper trim, the plastic on the side mirrors and the catch tray under the wipers and they all look like new a week later. It's supposed to last months and only a little is required at a time so the bottle, although small, should last ages!

Definately worth the 20 quid invested!

+1 I bought the same stuff, and from the the same place. Well impressed with results.

I would be interested to hear how you get on with the durabilty, I thought it was pretty good myself but then with some other new products on the market currently I think it's pretty expensive now.........:o

Here you go, don't have any before pics though...

You can see at the bottom of the bump strip a thin line of grey that I missed

That's £10 more than I paid for 119 mL of Black Wow, and your only getting 15mL of C4.

you get a 2year protection out of it and you don't need that much.

Trouble with those sorts of products is that you're not really getting to the root of the problem, just masking over.

I've had good success with Meguiars Professional Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner #39 that actually gets in and cleans the bumper strip. Then apply a trim detailer over the top to give some protection.

I went to a detailing seminar at Meg's UK place at Daventry a few years ago and they actually used the Mk1 vRS bumper to test it on! Worked really well - I have some before and after pics somewhere. Will post them up if I find them.

Easy solution.... colour code the bump strips like i did.

Well there is that way out. That's cheating though ;)

Hot hair drier/cool hot air gun

Make sure you don't get the paint though as this could have obviously negative effects.

Sure is but it's all economies of scale, you will need to re-apply Black Wow I would say monthly and therefore more than likely need to buy another bottle, C4 is pretty much bomb proof and with many ceramic products a little goes a long, long way...............;)

True Steve, true.........

Will Meguiars Professional Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner #39 work on rubbers?

Rubbers? What do you mean?

Little update, had to reapply Black Wow over the weekend. The trim had not reverted back to its initial grayness but after 3 weeks they were starting to fade. Still beats any other product I've tried and as someone who simply enjoys a clean car it's good enough for me :)

Window rubbers

Yep, I've used it before for that and will clean them up nicely. Then a trim protectant over the top will finish them off nicely
