I really miss my 1.8t Superb Comfort. Seeing the used prices now I'm really tempted to just take the plunge and get another. I cant decide on engine though. My Cee'd returns 36mpg and costs 60quid to fill every week and a half. I want the 1.8t again as I want to play with it and get a fair bit more power from it. On the other hand do I get the 1.9 tdi 130bhp and have the economy..what sort of power could I expect from a toyed 130bhp diesel? I know the 1.8t can get serious gains...

Simple remap gives approximately 165 bhp. I've had mine remapped for 9 years without problems and still original clutch/turbo.

How does it feel once remapped? And what sort of economy are you managing to achieve?

Keep in mind that 1.9PD will be far less refined than the 1.8T, although 1.9 will be cheaper to run as long as you get one in good condition without head leaks/camlobe wear. Well evidenced TB/WP job is a must (or do it after buying the car).

6-cyl are really the only engines with big enough oomph for the SuperBarge, but petrol ones are heavy drinkers, while diesel ones require careful maintenance ie correctly done TB job, and corossion protection of engine parts, bolts etc.

After driving V6 2.5TDI manual 6-spd for last 6yrs/103k miles, I'd not go back to a I4 1.9 diesel, if I had to go back to 4-cyl it would be to a petrol 4-cyl turbo engine like the 1.8T, or 2.0TFSI on newer Superbs and Passats, or as a last resort to newer common rails with much lower compression ratios (e.g. 1.6CR I'm getting in my wife's Roomster). But I hope my Superb will last another 100k / 5-6 years at least.

Note I have very specific requirement on the Superb, long autobahn trips across Europe, at night, at high speeds (typically 125mph+ actual). 1.9 could not really do that. Though for use within the UK, 1.9 is probably enough.

Whatever you get, do not get 2.0TDI, search forums for why.

Also, if you buy manual box that's more than 4 years old, make sure you replace gearbox oil, no need for hidieously expensive dealer g/box fluid, Fuchs makes very good one. You'd be surprised how bad factory fill oil looks like after just 4 years/80k miles.

Thanks for that. Having owned the 1.8t Superb I understand the common issues. I read extensively about the 2.0 tdi engine failures too. There are so many of them for sale which annoys me as I definately do not want that engine.

The remap gave instant response and an mpg average of about 42 over the past 100000 miles. It feels way more alive now. 0 - 60 is about 8.6 seconds, at least in my car. :-)

I had my 1.9 remapped recently and I've just come back from a weekend away returning an average of 53mpg, allowing for trip computer margins of error, on motorways and A roads with a heavy right foot.

The remap has made a big difference with in gear acceleration and the torque is lovely. The rolling road showed mine running 168bhp and 255lb ft, so no slouch.

I went from a remapped Octavia 1.8t to the Superb and at first I was dissapointed, but after getting used to the Superb, I love it, and the MPG is a bonus. Although diesel is ridiculously expensive now if you're doing enough mileage it more than balances out.

Check all the usual suspect faults like water ingress, get the pollen filter sealed and remove the plenum chamber bungs, and sort other bits and bobs which you'll know about from the petrol Superb and I think the 1.9 makes perfect sense. The AWX engine is a long termer and doesn't sound that bad once you get used to it :)

I just cannot decide on an engine...1.8t, 1.9 or 2.5 v6 tdi. I want the option to be able to properly modify it and get a fair amount of power. Im leaning towards the 1.8t as it seems to have the biggest power results in other cars...
