Water in headlights & a few other things.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Well after a changed my standard bulbs for HID's both headlights have been consintaly full of condensation, if you hit the lights the water just runs down, is there anyway of getting rid of this as it looks rubbish.

Also I bought a leather multi function steering wheel as the rubber 1 was horrible & pitted, is it possible to get the cruise control & the other functions to work? I need to source a MF airbag as the standard 1 doesn't fit & I've been quoted from breakers crazy money for 1.

The central locking, after reading threads about it I guess the ecu could be corroded as the drivers door sometimes locks or unlocks & the rear passenger door opens on 1 click & won't close, I have to lock that manually.

The last thing is the shocks, I've got about 167K & bought it with 151K on the clock, it feels like I'm driving a water bed so could they be due a new set?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like water in headlamps is the least of your problems, most likely reason is HID cable grommet not sealing properly, or cracked, or the rear headlamp caps not replaced properly and leaking water inside at speed.

Stock skoda shocks start getting loose after 15k miles and are next to useless after 50k-100k miles, so yes, you need new ones. Bilstein B6 monotubes offer best ride/handling. At this high mileage, it is worth also checking all balljoints in suspension, though unless the car had a mishap, the suspension is quite durable (but complicated).

But I strongly suggest you first address water ingress, airbag, etc. before spending any more money.

Cruise control is definitely possible to be enabled if you have cruise control stalk, not sure if just having MF wheel control buttons is enough, possibly you might need to short some connection (cruise control stalk has on-off switch in addition to whats on MF steering wheel) .
