Just picked up an Octavia VRS Mk2!

Featured Replies

Hello All,

New member here, who has after much deliberation finally settled on a 2006 Octavia VRS Mk2 (Petrol, of course). I nearly went for a Mk5 Golf GTi but wasn't quite convinced - the bigger boot (and lower price) of the Octavia made for the decider.

I love it, feels much better to drive than the Golf I previously test drove (which is strange, as they're on the same platform) and somehow manages to feel pokey even after moving from a 385bhp Toyota Supra. The massive jump in practicality is also appreciated (especially by my pregnant other half, who can now get out of the car without assistance), as is the improvement in fuel economy. It's a nice shade of blue, too.

I'm going to stay away from modifying this one, though it looks like there's a lot you can do to them. I still have a 'toy' in the garage, which doesn't get nearly enough attention, and I found modifying two cars to be a money pit!

See you around,

Alex

No mapping for this one, you shall not tempt me!

I'm intrigued by the Maxidot system, I've read about retrofitting it but I'm not sure why I'd want it - could someone enlighten me as to what it actually does?

remap is a must and it will make her a bit better on fuel

Allows you to control timers for when your brew is ready, BBC iplayer recording and so on.

Seriously though, it is the best on board system I've ever come across and lets you switch on / off some things, improve others, view diferent read outs and much much more

Good option from new only £100 but nearly £400 as a retrofit,(new clocks and fitting) , you can alter a few comfort settings, but if you have a mate with vag-com you can do more, like both rear fogs, leaving home lights, xmas tree brake lights, one click unlock, Throttle body alignment etc

Sounds like a bit of a gimmick then - thanks!

I have another question, I've got the MP3 Stream head unit, I know the slot loading optical drive in the front can play MP3s from disc - but can the 6 disc changer in the boot? Plus, can the iPod connector be wired up and leave the disc changer connected, or is it one or the other?

Disc changer not Mp3 disc , and one or the other
