Hi all, have got my new Vredestein wintrac Xtremes on 16'' steel rims ready to fit to my skoda superb 170 4x4 Elegance in a couple of weeks time.My every day 18'' continental tyres have 2.3 bar all round.Can anyone advise me as to what pressures i should use with the Winter set up ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

34 psi all round..Recommended by my tyre fitter

It's 2.4 bar +0.2 bar (with all winter tyres) so total of 2.6 bar

(look inside the fuel flap for the sticker).

I've read somewhere that the extra 0.2 bar was to compensate for the pressure loss caused by the temperature drop (from 25°C to 0°C you loose about 8.5% of your tire pressure).

However, this would only make sense if you measure the pressure when the tires are warm (tires stored in a garage or car parked in a heated garage for instance).

Therefore I decided to simply stick to my 2.5 bars, which is the tire pressure I always use for all my 8 wheels.

I'm monitoring tread wear, and as long as the tire wears evenly, I think my pressure is OK. At this moment however it is too soon to draw conclusions from my monitoring, since my summer tires have only done about 10.000 km, and my winter tires around 5000.

Lovely tyres - heading into winter 3 now with mine, on 4x4 170 estate (but have them on 18" rims as didn't want to spoil the look!)
