Fitting de-cat down pipe

Featured Replies

Now I'm pretty competent as a mechanic and really don't mind getting my hands dirty on the car! I've had a quick look and it looks fiddly but fairly simple.

Is it really that easy?

Thinking of getting a Piper down pipe and mating it to the standard cat back for now, what I think will be the issue is seperating the cat back and down pipe as it looks corroded under there!

Three nuts at the turbo (M8) and a clamp joining the down pipe to system. If the down pipe and system joint is seized then heating it should get it moving.

Do I need new gaskets for anywhere?

I fitted a new gasket 3A0253115 and 3 nuts N90200201 from TPS and a 60mm stainless clamp from Pirtek, under £10 for the lot.

I done the 1 from the top and the lower 2 from underneath as found it easier to get onto, some people to the 2 from the top but i just couldnt get good leverege. A normal gasket from dealer/motorfactors is all you need.
