Central locking and a non-opening door on vRS

Featured Replies

Drivers side rear door doesn't open on the handle, internally or externally. I did some reading up and it seems like a common problem with the car being deadlocked. However, I've noticed that both the front doors don't lock or unlock via central locking. The passenger rear and boot both do though.

Its booked in at Dennis Horton Skoda in Lincoln tomorrow for a diagnostic, but its just a faff that the locking proceedure I have at the moment is to lock via remote (to lock the passenger rear and boot), lock front passenger door on the pin, then get out and lock drivers door on the key....hassle!

So, in summary,

Drivers front

Opens internally/externally on handles

Doesn't respond to remote lock/unlock

Locks/unlocks on its own via key (and indicators flash)

Passenger front

Opens internally/externally on handles

Doesn't respond to remote lock/unlock

Locks/unlocks on its own via doorpin

Drivers rear

Doesn't open either internally/externally

Doesn't respond to remote lock/unlock

Passenger rear

Opens internally/externally on handles

Locks/unlocks on remote

Boot

Locks/unlocks on remote

Opens externally

All electric windows work as they should too. Also, it doesn't matter which position the electric mirror knob is put to (L or R), only the left mirror adjusts. By that I mean in L, the left mirror moves, in R, the left mirror moves.

Rear door will require a new lock, its getting the door open thats the hard bit.its near imposible not to damage the door card as the fixings are around the in accesible outside edge of the door :-( The central locking will be corroded pins on the drivers door loom plug either at the window motor end or where it joins the main loom. Neither are a cheap fix im affraid, skoda quoted around £180 for new lock and labour to open the door. A new loom for the drivers door is around £120 iirc. I wasnt happy paying that sort of money so i got a lock from a breakers for £10 and managed to get the rear door open myself. With the loom i also managed to find one in a local breakers(pure luck) and are straight forward to fit. Hope this helps

Had a chat with Dennis Horton Skoda and they traced the CL problem to the door loom as you say. I'm going to take the door card off and try WD40 on the pins and see if that helps. If not, I'll get a new loom from a scrap Octavia.

They seem to think the loom is also the cause of the rear door being stuck. The pin is dropped down, if I got a pair of pliers on the pin and pulled it up, could that release it? I'm guessing something has caused the motor to stay in the deadlocked position?

Yes would have a good look around the local breakers for a loom. You will need to find an occy with CL, EW and EM though. You will also need to inspect as could have the same problem as your current loom.

You will probs find your little red LED isnt flashing either.

When my rear door wouldnt open i changed the lock and it was fine. It wasnt till over a year later the drivers door loom went. I tried everything but resorted to smashing lock casing and using a pick to release the lock. Some people have said if you bang round the lock area whilst pressing unock on remote that sometimes releases. Didnt work for me though
