1.4 TSI DSG strange power delivery?

Featured Replies

I don't know how to describe this, but sometimes I feel like something else is controlling the throttle, instead of my right foot.

Just today I was accelerating at about half throttle, probably in third or fourth gear (not sure) because of a speed limit change. I was doing maybe 3000 rpm. Suddenly just before the gearchange, acceleration increased noticeably, by itself. Imagine a diesel slowly accelerating from idle in too tall a gear, and suddenly hitting the powerband. Except this happened smack dab in the middle of the powerband.

In these engines, the power curve is smooth and the torque curve is flat as a pool table pretty much through the entire powerband. It shouldn't do this, so why does it happen? I've noticed it before too. It's like the engine doesn't always obey input from the throttle pedal.

It's a 2012 1.4 TSI DSG with a hair over 9000km on the clock, so it's under warranty. I just can't be arsed to take it in for something that happens once in a blue moon. Is it just how these engines are?
