Fabia Vrs Tsi DSG oil problem solving.

Featured Replies

Hi to everyone. Last November we bought a fabia Vrs Tsi for my wife. Didn't get it from a Skoda dealer as they are useless near us. I ended up travelling to Stoke-on-Trent to buy it from the largest BMW dealership on the UK. They were superb and very helpful unlike DM Keith and we bought the car. It is white with white wheels and a carbon wrap roof which looks great. Extras included rear parking sensors, climatronic, phone prep and privacy glass. There were only 2 other white ones for sale at the time and this was the best value.

It had 11000 miles on the clock and after my wife got used to the DSG gearbox she loves it.

The problem started after we had it a few months with the oil light coming on after a spirited drive to the Lake District. There had also been oil all over the hatch in spots. I read the threads about oil usage and having had no interest from DM Keith dealerships went to Lightcliffe Nissan on Halifax who have a VW, Seat, Audi and Skoda service dept. They were really helpful and Steve Howell told me to bring it in and they did the oil test - weigh it, fill it up and then do 600 miles and take it back to see how much it had used. They contacted Skoda and they authorised a new breather system which was fitted and again the oil weighed etc. After only 420 miles the oil warning light came on and I was advised to thick the level. I had to put 1/4 lite in to get it to minimum. They then checked it again and found it had used 1.2 litres in 450 miles. Again Skoda contacted and this time a new engine was ordered at a cost of £2500 for the complete engine and the same for fitting etc. I was told that Skoda know there is a fault with the early engines and they supply a complete engine with modified block and pistons and the old unit gets returned for refurb. It has done 2500 miles since and not used a drop. It is also doing about 300-350 with my wife driving it and she doesn't take it easy as I have followed her back from Norfolk the other day.

We only had a few months left on the warranty when we took it in so it was sorted for free. If only Skoda dealers were as helpfull!

Hi and welcome aboard.

Glad you got it sorted out in the end.

Welcome.
