Can't Copy to USB Drives

Featured Replies

Guys, this is now bugging the hell out of me...

I can't copy to a USB drive be it a HDD or flash.

This is regardless of the file size or type. It appears to start copying, and then gives up and hangs either right at the start or about 3/4 of the way through.

I've tried all sorts - the source drive is NTFS format, I've tried NTFS and FAT32 for the target drives, tried all the different USB sockets, tried 3 different flash drives and 2 USB HDD's.

Also tried a Windows repair and a system recovery...

System is running Win 7 Ultimate x64...

Any ideas before I wipe and reinstall (would like to avoid if poss)?

Cheers,

Simon

Is this the same file(s) you are trying to copy off the computer?

Nope, tried multiple different files from multiple different location and off my 3 different internal drives. HDD health checks are all coming back fine...

Can you copy from one external drive to another?

Oh and do you have any other USB devices plugged in?

Can't copy anything through Windows so ext drive to ext drive doesn't work. and I've tried with every USB device unplugged and worked through each one systematically to see if one was causing the problem!

It's really odd because there are no other issues with the PC at all...

IIRC there is a way to reset all the usb ports in device manger but the how escapes me right now.
