Core plugs: do they need gunk?

Featured Replies

I'm changing the core plugs in my engine. I've been told by one person to use a smear of hylomar, and another person has told me to put them in dry.

Is there a definite answer on this?

No definite answer, but just to add some confusion... I was told to put some paint or clearcoat around the sealing face ( touch-up stick paint) the last time I changed some.

Hope that helps.

I'm a bit nervous about getting paint into my waterways (it's a Rover V8, and they tend to clog up anyway). Do you mean after you've fitted the plugs, or before?

Blimey! Is that stuff still available? It's what I used to use.

Yep, still available, and essential if you're building older engines!
