ABS Fault Code 01276

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Can anyone help me please - I have a 2005 1.9 TDI Estate.  The other day, after a lot of driving in the wet my ABS and ESP warning lights came on.  If I stop the car and switch of the ignition the ESP one goes off until I start driving again but then quite quickly comes on again.

I have a crude fault code reader and it gives me the code 01276.  If I clear the fault it stays off until I drive the car again.

It doesn't seem to be the correct code for the common wheel sensor issue?

I've looked at the info on the ABS pump repair kits but I'd rather be a bit more confident that one of those would fix it before forking out.  The car has done going on for 150K miles and I was planning to replace it with the new model in the spring so I would rather not spend too much.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers,

Graham.

follow this link to causes and possible remedies FAULT CODES

The Ross Tech wiki suggests its a problem with the abs pump or wiring. It would be useful to get the car scanned with VCDS to find out exactly what the error is as there a number of options with that error.

Thanks both for those speedy replies.

James - Thanks - I think I stumbled across than info earlier, I have been poking about on the web for several hours now and I think I have started to go around in circles!  I will investigate the wiring tomorrow, if the rain ever stops, and see if that gets me anywhere.

Trundlenut - If checking out the wiring / fuses doesn't get me anywhere I will do as you suggest.  Do you happen to know what the cheapest option is for a fault code reader which would do the full job rather than having to take it for a garage to read?

Thanks Again.

Graham.

Look in the diagnostics/VCDS forum on here, there is a list of people with VCDS who can help you out. See if there is anyone local to you.

Brilliant - Thanks.  I hadn't tapped into that before - there is someone not too far from me.

Cheers,

Graham.

Still struggling with this problem - I sent the ABS control unit off to BBA Reman for testing but it tested out OK.  I have fairly thoroughly tested all of the wiring to the ABS unit, not least the three 12v supplies and the ground without finding anything amiss.  With the ABS unit back in the car I still get the same fault code and ABS/ESP warning lights.  I just got it checked out at a garage with a more fully featured diagnostic set up than mine and their kit gives the same fault and points to the ABS pump as the culprit.  The BBA test should have covered the pump motor, although they don't test that the pump generated pressure?

Any suggestions anyone?

I have finally traced my problem to a faulty 12v supply cable to the ABS pump from the fusebox.  Checking the voltage at the ABS 26 pin connector with a multimeter showed the full battery voltage, which threw me off the trail for a while, but when putting a load of a couple of amps on the supply I was getting about 0.8v drop across the cable.  I have bypassed the cable with a new one and all is good now.

....just wonder when the next wire in that loom will fail!!!
