fuel reserve

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I would like to know if there is a certain amount of fuel reserve in the Octavia II 1.9 TDI. The display says I have about 20km to go before it's really empty. But will it be really empty then? How far will it still go after the display is on "0 km" ?

I've read in the manual that it's not adviseable to drive untill it's REALLY empty, but I would like to know how much "reserve" I have before the tank is really empty. If it would be something like 50km or 100km extra, then there is no harm in driving an extra 30km I guess?

The most I've done in my Mk1 octy TDI was 10 miles after "0" and I was very nervous about running out of fuel at this point.

I certainly wouldn't want to try any more than that , and with up to 600 miles on a tank full there is rarely much need to try

In a petrol car i'd be inclined to find out, but running a diesel dry may well damage the engine, and will certainly need a fair bit of work to fix.
