Skoda Rapid 135RiC for sale with an amazing 2,000 miles. I actually met the first owner of this car a few years ago. He bought the car and then stored it in his garage for fourteen years before trading it in for a brand new Fabia - which he intended to do the same with. Since then the car has been in the ownership of main dealers but is now available to buy.

Nice car, but a trifle overpriced

I would give a trifle for it. I would even put real cream on it.

a trifle overpriced

At £2,000 more than a brand new Fabia, I couldn't agree more.

How does one come up with a price that surely not even the most enthused Skoda nut would shell out for? Nice car mind (just like one I had as a student).

Unlike a Fabia however, this is exclusive to the n'th degree. Aside from being quite possibly the best unrestored Rapid outside of the museum it is also a RiC which were only in production for a matter of months and sold in quite small number. And unlike the Fabia which will depreciate heavily this won't - quite the opposite. So in those terms, its a bargain. Car values are always relative.

That may well be, but a quick look on car and classic reveals a 1971 Octavia for £4500, a (possibly even more mint than the above) 1987 Estelle (with only 1,415 miles from new) for £3900.

As nice and rare as it might be it's still not worth £12,000.

I think it is over priced but comparing it to a new Fabia is ridiculous...a new Fabia is just another modern hatch that blends into traffic. This will stand out and if looked after in 3 years time will be appreciating (although probably not if you buy it at the price they want!) while the new Fabia will have lost nearly 50% of its value.

The trouble is that this car is only, even arguably, worth this money because of the mileage. If you actually drive it, then it will depreciate towards the typical price of an A1 condition Rapid135.

I had a look at that Octavia in Lincoln, it's in very nice condition indeed, surprised that it hasn't already sold.

Of course it's ridiculous to compare it to a new Fabia as a purchase. I stated the price of a new Fabia as an illustration of the ludicrously high asking price of the car in question.

It certainly stood out amongst the other examples I found. It looks very good in the photographs.

Any comparison between non-comparables is ridiculous......you can't buy a decent Rolex for the price of this Rapid and yet the Rapid will tell the time just as well and is much bigger. The Rapid is therefore a bargain! I guess a £20k Ford Escort would seem even worse value for money compared to a Fabia.

Actually, the Rapid won't tell you the time. A clock wasn't standard equipment. :P I don't think it it is a ridiculous comparison. Both are cars and both cost £12,000. Main difference is one won't loose value. Of course, practicality does come into it...

You also need to remember that the RiC is a rare model at the best of times. They were only sold in the UK and Canada and I can think of 4 in the UK today, 5 if you include this one. This is most definitely the best example. Don't get me wrong, it isn't cheap, far far from it but it isn't as expensive as it first sounds. To look at it another way if you were to buy a RiC (when one rarely comes up for sale) for £1500 you'll have to spend a good £7,000 to get it into the condition of this car (if you could find many of the obsolete parts) and you're then left with a restored, "high" mileage example. If you really want the best, and can find the money, it'd be worth it.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone does bite.

Actualy they were sold only in the UK and in Austria. They were never sold in Canada. those lucky guys got the 135GLi with beige interior instead.

As Skodanorman says, go out, find a Rapid for around £1500 with say 50k miles on the clock, needs paint, needs welding, needs seats retrimming, probably a brake refurb,  etc, and numerous other items replacing. Get it all done professionally, cost around 6-8k. So, you spend 7.5k - 9k total and have a non original car with 50+k miles worth about3.5 -  4k tops, whereas for probably 2k more than you've forked out, you could have a 2k miles car thats 100% original.

Is this the same car?

How about this one? It has even lower miles on the clock...

No offence to the owner, but it ruined - he has painted the front panel, sills and other areas in black underseal/ If he actually took the polishing agent off it, advertised it and cleaned it up properly he might just get some proper interest, but he seems a lazy seller.

What happened to her?
