steaming up problems

Featured Replies

hi, could any one give me any advice on my skoda supurb steaming up. I cannot seam to demist the windows, this has never been a problem before,i have checked the two footwells for water ingress but they are dry. any ideas please thanks andy.

Unless you've checked under the carpet you haven't really checked the footwells.  Water has to be quite deep before the carpet is noticeably wet on top.

Do you have the aircon on?  If not, these cars do tend to steam up anyway.

Do you actually have much flow from the demist vents?  The flow of air between demist and footwells is controlled by a little motor up in the driver's footwell.  These fail (mine went at about 120K miles).  The effect is that you can set it to demist, the fan speeds up, but the air still goes to your feet.

A scan with VCDS usually shows up these motors if faulty.

Check you aren't in recirculate mode on the climate control. On mine when I first bought it (18months old) the servo motor had failed controlling the recirculate flap causing steaming up, Warranty fix - substantial dash/seats out job though

Turn the direction of air flow knob towards the floor when finished using car.

I found this stopped mine quite a bit, then use air-con on start-up to clear screen before moving off.
